Pregnancy is the peak of interest of parents, particularly mothers who are very eager on seeing the baby’s condition while it is still inside the womb. Often times, parents play a little guessing game on whether the baby is a boy or a girl. After which, the mother undergoes a medical procedure known as “ultrasound” which gives out the baby’s silhouette inside the mother’s womb. This procedure provides accurate information regarding the baby in the mother’s womb.

Before, the most common form of ultrasound that mothers undergo is that of the 2D ultrasound, showing almost only the baby’s silhouette. This also allows the parents to see the movements of the baby while it is inside the mother’s womb. Though undergoing 2D ultrasound still does work for others, a much better view of the baby can now be seen with the use of the 3D ultrasound.

How a 3D ultrasound works basically is through a much distributed radio wave processed by the computer, allowing a view of all angles of the baby inside the womb. A 2D ultrasound works the same way but the distribution of radio waves is only the up and down flow. 3D ultrasound is not a new product of medical technology. In fact, this has already been in existence since the 1980s but has not yet been that commercialized and recommended as it used to have a much stronger and considerably harmful effect if used frequently. Today, the 3D ultrasound has already been developed to be safe to use as an option for parents who would like to have a glimpse of their soon-to-be baby.

Talking about edge in ingenuity, a 3D ultrasound does not provide movement compared to that of a 2D ultrasound. Still 2D ultrasound takes the lead in checking whether the baby is showing movement or not. On the other hand, a 3D ultrasound makes it easier to detect any deficiencies that may be present in the baby. Either way, both still has a unique and functional edge of its own.

Since a 3D ultrasound used to be not a choice to take in viewing a baby while inside the womb, you may ask if there are any side effects if a baby is exposed to this kind of ultrasound. The technology itself can be very advanced. How it can affect people is often learned about in the latter part. It has been observed that babies exposed to 3D ultrasound come out as left handed. This case is more common to boys than girls. Although there can be nothing wrong about being left handed babies, they are just prone to cognitive deficiencies as they grow along the way.

This is just one of the least to be expected from babies having to undergo a 3D ultrasound. Instances about a baby being harmed from being exposed to a 3D ultrasound are very rare and are still under continuous observation. Since this ultrasound procedure can be openly used in detecting other internal deficiencies, the use of a 3D ultrasound should be taken in moderation as there are possible risks along with it.
