Western Civilization is crumbling under the burdensome weight of destructive social ideas and false moralities. And the crushing weight continues to increase—day after day. How long will it be before Atlas shrugs and the world as we know it finally collapses? Will nostalgia reign supreme during the darkest days of despair?
Socialism and Government Interventionism
People show up at the political conventions and cheer wildly—wildly for candidates who promise to destroy every value that America once proudly stood for. The virtues of free enterprise, self-reliance, saving for the future has been replaced with the pseudo-philosophy of gimme, gimme, gimme now—and we don’t care where it comes from. Of course there are an abundance of politicians, altruists, do-gooders and world-improvers willing to supply the “goodies” at the expense of productive citizens. Theft has been legalized.
The social systems of socialism and government interventionism are systems of theft and plunder. Make no mistake about this. Self-deluders and con men (politicians) may claim otherwise. These masters of illusions and delusions gain power over others through the clever use of faulty, destructive social ideas. You almost have to admire (the same way you might admire Hitler, Stalin, Mao, etc.) a group at individuals who are devilishly effective at enlisting intellectuals who masterfully utilize the establishment media to propagate their evil nonsense. Tragically the masses eat it up—just as a glutton consumes massive amounts of food.
Praxeology – the Science of Human Action
Praxeology (economics) proves beyond any doubt that all government interventionism is self-defeating and doomed to failure. Heck, common sense would tell anyone with half a brain that every government program fails miserably. Yet the people beg for more. It is as if they are a bunch of junkies dependent on their pusher—the government—to supply them with more dope.
Anytime a government created economic boom deteriorates into a bust (something that praxeology proves must happen) the following recession causes people to suffer severe withdrawals. Of course Uncle Sam is always more than willing to loosen up the monetary spigots and supply its citizens with more of its addictive drugs in the form of easy money, more government regulations, new laws violating life, liberty and freedom and possibly a war to temporarily stimulate the economy, ad nauseam, ad nauseam.
False Moralities
America has suffered a moral breakdown—and it isn’t the breakdown the Absolute Moralist so gleefully spouts about. He thinks “Your morals are in your pants.” While our government is viciously raping and plundering our once great country the Absolute Moralist goes on and on about pornography, sex outside of marriage, drugs, gambling, alcohol etc. In his stupidity he doesn’t realize that these are personal problems. Since is head is stuck up you know where—he oblivious to the fact that much of this behavior is caused by an entity that is a gigantic social problem—big, destructive government. Instead of getting to the root of the problem—destructive social ideas—and the result of these—government interventionism—he treats the symptoms. He transforms personal problems into massive social problems—which is not what we need.
Morality is a personal issue—not a social problem. That last thing we need is government involvement—the Absolute Moralist’s faulty ideas about morality foisted on others. You may be asking “Isn’t morality important?”
How about these definitions of morality:
1. Any voluntary exchange between two or more individuals.
2. Rejection of all involuntary exchanges—even if they are sanctioned by the violent compulsion and coercion of the government.
3. Recognizing and practicing Natural and Economic Law in all interactions with others.
4. Respecting the life, liberty, freedom and property of others.
5. Willingly trading value for value with others—rejecting all other types of trade.
6. Personally living impeccably and practicing rational selfishness.
Impeccability and Rational Selfishness
I do not define impeccability as an absence of sin as others do. I’m sure this is the Absolute Moralist’s definition since he seems to be obsessed by sin. I define it from the point of view of personal power. I call impeccability the ability to do one’s best under all circumstances. You consciously apply your resources to achieve your goals and desires. You are fully aware of what you are doing—and you are able to act effectively—free of any negative responses and hang-ups. You are a master of exercising your personal power.
In Carlos Castaneda’s masterful books about the teachings of don Juan—impeccability is considered one of the most important traits of a warrior. What impressed me was how close impeccability and rational selfishness are connected.
Ayn Rand described rational selfishness as acting in your own best interest using reason and logic. A rationally selfish individual rejects the anti-life philosophy of altruism and avoids acting in an irrationally selfish manner.
Both Ayn Rand’s rational selfishness and Carlos Castaneda’s impeccability refer to how an individual conducts himself in the physical world. However, Castaneda’s warrior acts impeccably in order to prepare himself to penetrate other worlds and dimensions. This is a beautiful, sublime combination since I believe that mastering both the physical and spiritual are necessary for success and happiness.
What does this have to do with destructive social ideas and false moralities? The impeccable individual who practices rational selfishness rejects all these. He believes in self-responsibility and self-reliance. He lives by his own wits. He trades value for value and would never consider extorting values from others. He is an individualist. By using his energy to create personal power he is capable of transcending his individuality and becoming the consummate warrior.
Libertarian Pleasures
Destructive social ideas and false moralities are destroyers of pleasure and ecstasy. As government interventionism consumes wealth, it reduces an individual’s options. On top of this you have the spectacle of absolute moralists using the violent compulsion and coercion of the government to prevent individuals from indulging in certain voluntary exchanges. It is estimated that about 80% of all arrests are for victimless crimes.
Government created economic chaos is an obstacle to success, pleasure, ecstasy and happiness. Most people are too worried about their financial situation to actually enjoy life. In addition, the anti-life philosophy of altruism life extracts much of their satisfaction with life. Fear and guilt are two of the consequences of altruism that people suffer. Since the majority of people aren’t particularly impeccable or rationally selfish, they increase their indulgences in irrationally selfish behaviors in an attempt to obliterate their misery.
The impeccable individual—the rationally selfish person acts in what he or she believes to be in his or her best interest. He shuns the philosophy of altruism and he would never purposely act in an irrationally selfish manner. He sees through the illusions of false social ideas and false moralities. He possesses mastery over his reasoning and intuitive powers. Because of this he enjoys all the Libertarian Pleasures life has to offer.
