Many lives have been lost throughout history due to the greed for gold. It is still viewed as extremely precious and most desirable. For centuries gold has been, and is used in jewelry, as money and as a store of value.

Approximately 45% of all the worlds gold is kept by central banks and governments as a highly regarded reserve asset.

Gold has a good resistance to most chemical reactions and has superior conduction power, for these reasons it can be found in electrical gadgets and in the circuitry of your computer.

White gold looks like silver and people often refer to it as silver due to its appearance, White gold is not silver. It is a mixture of gold and another white metal most often silver, palladium (palladium - a white ductile metallic element), nickel or platinum.

The combination of the metals creates a white silver appearance instead of the yellow gold look that we are familiar with although white gold is still measured in Karats the same as yellow gold.

Each metal that is mixed with the gold will produce different properties .Mix nickel with the gold and you will get a strong hard metal, a strong hard metal would be ideal for use in rings and pins. If the metal mix is palladium and gold the result will be a much softer flexible metal which would be ideal for gemstone settings.

A lot of people prefer silver bracelets to gold. Youngsters find yellow gold little old fashioned.Silver bangle bracelets are very fashionable at the moment apparently.

Sterling silver bracelets are becoming very fashionable with celebrities. Some wear whole silver jewelery sets and it does not take long for our youth to follow the fashion of their pop idols.

The variety of silver bracelets available is immense they come in many different sizes, shapes and designs. Although silver bracelets are relatively inexpensive it is possible to find some studded with rubies ,emeralds or diamonds. These obviously are not so inexpensive.

There is a great deal of superstition surrounding silver apart from the usual werewolf and Dracula tales. One that I hadn’t heard of until recently was that placing a sixpence in the brides shoe brought wealth to the newly married couples’s future.

Apparently modern day brides use a penny as silver sixpences are not easily obtainable.

If you are in need of a silver sixpence you will find a couple to choose from at http://www.waldorfelite.com/goods and services/just-for-the-bride1.htm

For centuries both gold and silver jewelry has been handed down from generation to generation. Many pieces of jewelry that have been handed have great sentimental value and usually an interesting tale to go with it.

Women love to wear gold and silver on special occasions like weddings. I wear my gold jewelry every day and would feel quite lost without it, as I have said before gold lasts forever but I must admit I do take my rings off to tend the garden, so I don’t loose any.

Every year designers attempt to outdo each other so fashions in the western world seem to change annually .Where jewelry used to be sedate and inconspicuous now it seems that anything goes and the product ranges available for us to choose from is improving all the time.
