Although traditionally people often perceive vertical blinds as being used in offices and work places they are becoming an increasingly popular choice of window treatments within homes. The latest designs offer a wide range of colours and operating options making them ideal for use in any room of a traditional or modern home and the ideal solution for providing a modern alternative to net curtains.

Vertical blinds come in a variety of different finishes and can be made from vinyl, wood or fabric. The operating option also may this style of blind extremely popular for use in a conservatory as they provide protection from the sunlight, keeping a room cool during the warmer months. All vertical blinds can be stacked back to offer an obstructed view to the outside or tilted to offer privacy and let controlled amounts of light to enter the room. These are the perfect solution for use across a patio or French doors, with the stack-back position being available on either the right or left hand side, for large expanses of glass many vertical blinds can be stacked into a central position.

Most of the fabric vertical blinds have a coating which makes them both fire and fade resistant and easy to wipe clean. Altering a vertical blind to fit windows of any size can easily be achieved as both the width and height can be adjusted. To avoid excess trimming vertical blinds are available in a variety of both width and length sizes.

Patterned vertical blinds offer a less formal look, those with leaf style patterns or abstract designs can be coordinated with other window curtains or simply used on their own to provide a clean, crisp line to a window. Hessian effect polyester blinds in neutral tones provide a warm atmosphere with gently diffused lighting effects to enhance soft furnishings and decors in a subtle, yet effective way.

PVC and aluminium vertical blinds are perfect for use in a bathroom or kitchen, they are hard wearing and easy to clean. A solid PVC vertical blind provides total blackout for use in bedrooms. Metallic aluminium blinds offered in the latest softly muted pastel colours provide a subtle glistening, sparkling effect which looks very effective and relaxing in a bedroom.

Bright bold coloured vertical blinds are gradually becoming more widely available, however white and soft pastel colours remain the most popular choices, offering clean lines and an unfussy look to a window in any style of room.

Wooden vertical blinds offer a vast choice of different natural and stained colours. The lightweight woods which offer paler colours such as ash and beech can create a warming and inviting atmosphere, for a more contemporary and dramatic effect dark woods such as dark oak and rowan are very striking. Rooms decorated with an interior design style which focuses on reds would look stunning with a wooden vertical blind in rich red mahogany or warm cherry, alternatively colours such as antique pine or antique oak provide a natural look which compliments wooden flooring and more traditional interior design styles.
