Salt water fishing is not like other types of fishing, while it can be a relaxing day on the water, for the most part it is usually exciting and that is because the fish are bigger, making it more of a challenge. This is what attracts most saltwater and deep-sea anglers to the water, its man against nature with the size of many catches. This kind of fishing is where Marlin, Swordfish and others will be the catch of the day unlike the smaller sized lake, pond, creek and river fishing. These are the kind of fish that every angler waits for; they are the perfect trophies if you have a wall large enough.

There are different ways to fish in salt water, it can be as simple as fishing from the pier or out on the wide-open ocean fishing from a yacht. There are also two different methods salt-water anglers use, the first is done by trolling the bottom while the boat is moving at a steady speed, this allows the fish to see the food while not being frightened. The second is to use bait and lures with the line just below the water and then some anglers like to wait until the boat is anchored and using the proper lures and bait to fish the bottom and this is referred to as saltwater fly fishing.

Saltwater fishing is the type of fishing that can be a trip out on the ocean for a day or a week and each day brings new battles and excitement because these types of fish do not reel in easily. One thing that any angler which fishes saltwater will tell you, is they would not give it up for any other type of fishing because it is exciting.

The important thing about salt water fishing is that since it is unlike any other kind of fishing the equipment is also different, the rods must be stronger because the fish are larger and weight more. A saltwater fishing rod is usually approximately nine feet in length. It is made so it will hold up to the torment of fighting fish this large and it will cost more than the fresh water rods. The reel is also different and should be made for saltwater fishing because these reels are made with materials that will not corrode from the salt.

The next choice is what type of fishing you will be doing; this will determine the type of leaders, lures, flies and even bait that you will be using.

Some dedicated saltwater anglers construct their own flies, this of course takes patients to tie the perfect fly and while not everyone has that kind of patients or time for another hobby they can be purchased at sporting or bait stores. The important thing with flies is they are to fool the fish into thinking they are a snack.

Once all the proper gear is chosen it’s a matter of being where the fish are out on the ocean and there is equipment designed to help with that also, making it easier to land the big fish.
