Have you ever been to a city called Mudgee in Australia? Most people outside of Asutralia have probably never even heard of it, let alone been there. Mudgee is a city in New South Wales, Australia, nestled in the Cudgegong River Valley, northwest of Sydney. If you have not been there or never heard of it, consider touring Mudgee, NSW this year. Here are some interesting toursim facts about Mudgee.

Mudgee is well-know for being a wine country. This makes it a popular spot for people to tour. There are up to forty wineries in this city. One such example is the Blue Wren. The Blue Wren opened in early 1999. A second vineyard was bought in September of 1999 located adjacent to Mudgee Airport. It was here that their wine tasting rooms, gift shops, and restaurant was constructed and debuted in March 2001. The restaurant has become a popular place to eat in Mudgee. Another winery is called the Farmer’s Daughter. Here you will find hospitable staff in lovely countryside surroundings. They aim to please as tourists taste their award-winning wines. They will let you relax in their wine garden and even use their on-site barbeque facilities. They even have lodgings to stay.

There are a variety of beautiful state parks in the area. The first of two examples being Munghorn Gap Nature Reserve. This is located northeast of Mudgee and only takes a half-hour to drive there. This Reserve is an excellent birdwatching spot, with up to 160 native species. Walkers can hike along the Castle Rocks track or enjoy a picnic at Moolarben Picnic Area. Another lovely state park is the Coolah Tops National Park. This park is nestled in the fragrant eucalyptus forest. Take pictures of each other with cascading waterfalls as your background. View the dazzling Liverpool plains, and choose from numberous campgrounds for your camping needs.

Tourists would be interested to learn there is a private observatory in Mudgee, simply called the Mudgee Observatory. It has been in business for ten years and occasionally used by the University of NSW, the Sydney Observatory staff and the Sutherland Astronomical Society. The observatory is located 15 minutes west of Mudgee. Tourists can view the night skies the way they were supposed to be seen. A tour of Mudgee observatory can be entertaining and educational for all ages.

Literature buffs would probably like the Henry Lawson Centre. Henry Lawson was one of Australia’s most prolific and well-known authors, his poetry still quoted to this day. The centre takes the visitor on a tour through the different phases of his life. People who want to learn some general history of Mudgee can visit the Mudgee Museum, which is located in an 1856 building, that was originally called the West End Hotel. This building has been lovingly recreated from the parlour to the bar and there is even charming doll display. Busses are welcome here.

Austrailia is world renowned for its diverse scenic beauty. Don’t overlook this little diamond in the rough that is Mudgee.
