Few companies have an unlimited marketing budget, and so they have to decide which types of advertising are best for them. I’m going to go over some of the details of postcard printing to help you decide if this is the best kind of marketing to use.

What do postcards do?

Full color postcards provide a simple, straightforward message to your customers. Because they’re so small you can’t fit a very large message onto them, but they work wonders when you have something basic you need to get across to your customers.

They can also be sent directly to a person’s home. Few other forms of advertising can boast the same, and this can be very important when targeting a wide audience. You know for a fact that your postcards will get handed directly to a person, and if you did a good job designing them, you’ll be able to grab a person’s attention quickly and get your message to them.

How much does postcard marketing cost?

Compared to many other forms of marketing, postcard printing is a very cost effective style of marketing. They don’t require nearly as much time to design due to the simple nature of the postcards themselves. You’ll be able to save money on the design costs, and postage is particularly cheap with postcards as well, keeping your mailing costs down as well.

How hard is it to implement a postcard marketing push?

The hardest thing about postcards is the initial research. Many other forms of advertising require less time spent researching, whereas with postcards you’re specifically sending them to people’s homes, so you have to have a solid mailing list if you want to be successful.

Often a postcard marketing push will only be as successful as the original mailing list was. If you have a poorly formed list that focuses on the wrong people, you won’t be able to gain as many sales because of it.

Are there any downsides to postcards?

The lack of space you have to work with means you have to have a basic message, period. The longer your message gets the harder it’ll be for your postcards to get it across to people. Most of those who pick up your postcards won’t be expecting a longer message and so they’ll be less inclined to give your postcards the attention they would need to win them over.

For some companies this won’t be any trouble, but if you need to introduce yourself to people, or explain a new product they don’t know as much about, this lack of space might end up hurting you. Be sure that your messages are brief enough to work well with the format before trying out postcard printing with your marketing.

Hopefully these details will help you decide if postcards are the way to go for your marketing. Most companies will benefit from a strong postcard push, so give it a try, and see what kinds of results you end up getting.
