We live in a very body-conscious society. Those who are overweight might make up the majority of society, but they are also the ones who withstand the most ridicule. While no one has a perfect physique, there are some people (like movie stars) who are idolized by those who wish they had bodies like that.

Well, you could also get such a body if you wanted to have a liposuction surgical procedure done. After all, that is what many celebrities have done. Of course, they have the money to have liposuction done whenever they want, and they actually need to get immediate results, especially if they only have just a short while to prepare for a movie.

Liposuction is widely known, and has actually made its way into popular culture. However, the fact remains that some people still do not know the technicalities behind the procedure. Yes, liposuction is a weight-loss procedure, but it is so much more than that. The overall process starts with finding the right surgeon. Now, it is important to note that it a prospective patient should never choose a doctor just based on the rates. A doctor might have low rates, but not a very good portfolio.

Alternatively, a doctor who is ridiculously expensive does not mean that he or she is excellent either. The overall cost for this kind of procedure is not inexpensive (a few thousand dollars, depending on the area of the body) but the right surgeon will charge a reasonable fee and also have a decent financing plan.

Also, any prospective patient should do research on the skills of the surgeon. The surgeon should be fully certified, and up-to-date on all of the latest technology for this procedure. Also, the surgeon must have a friendly, yet professional personality, answer any questions that the patient might have, and be more than willing to show his or her portfolio.

Once the surgeon has been selected, a consultation must be scheduled. Now, it is very important to note that the prospective patient cannot expect to get a consultation immediately. It might take weeks and even months before the consultation can happen.

On the day of the consultation, the patient will have to be extensively questioned about past medical history, any allergies, and what they hope to get out of the surgery. Now, it should be mentioned that not everyone is a perfect candidate for this procedure. If a person has not first tried working out and eating healthy, then the surgeon will most likely recommend that the patient try that first.

A perfect candidate is one that is at a stable weight, and has not been able to get rid of the extra fat in their thighs, upper arms, or midsection – despite having exercised and eaten healthy for a year. The procedure, in which a long metal tube is inserted into the fat layer to suck the fat out, is preferable for a variety of reasons, the most prominent of which is that it is a relatively short procedure, and requires only a short recovery time.
