Dental Veneers also called Porcelain veneers are custom-designed shells that cover the front surface of your teeth to disguise uneven tooth alignment, discolored teeth, or erratic spacing between two teeth and cracks or broken tooth. They are bonded to the front of the teeth to improve your appearance so that you can freely laugh and show your great dazzling smile.

Dental veneers are used to fix the teeth that are broken, misaligned, worn down, damaged, or discolored due to the use of tobacco, excessive fluoride, or as part of a root canal procedure. Dental veneers are designed in a way to hide the original color, shape, length, size of the teeth. They are a part of cosmetic dentistry as they enhance the looks of a person by beautifully aligning and freshening the color of their teeth.

The good thing about these Dental veneers is that they last for a very long time. Dental veneers can be made either from resin veneers or from porcelain veneers. In comparison to resin veneers, porcelain veneers have good resistance power to stains.

When it comes to the placement of veneers, generally at least three visits to the dentist are required - one for consultation, and the other two for applying the veneers. To determine if the veneers are right for you, your dentist will examine your x-rays and the impressions of your mouth. By this she will judge whether the veneers are suitable for your teeth or not. Once established that your teeth are appropriate for dental veneer you’re all set to go.

This first step involves preparing teeth for a veneer. For this purpose, your dentist will remove about ½ enamel from your tooth surface equal to the thickness of the dental veneer so that it can be added to the tooth surface. Then, she will make an impression of your tooth and send the model to a dental laboratory to construct your dental veneer. It takes usually 2 weeks for the veneers to be back from the laboratory. These veneers are examined and matched with the color of your teeth so as to fit and match perfectly. When found suitable, they are permanently cemented to your teeth.

Until the veneer is adjusted to the proper shape and size of your teeth, your dentist will not place your dental veneer permanently. If your veneer does not match perfectly you dentist will send it back to the lab. After your dentist is satisfied with the veneer, special cement is applied to the dental veneer and placed on your tooth. Once this is done your dentist will use a special light to harden your dental veneer quickly.

Final step involves making any final adjustments like removing any excess cement, as necessary. Within the first couple of weeks you’ll be asked to come back for a check-up to see how your gums are responding to the dental veneer.

At last, dental veneers have become an appealing option for those who are more conscious about the looks of their teeth. After this dental procedure, you can enjoy a comfortable smile.
