Many years ago, having a cleaning person for your residence or for your office was considered a luxury. However, with the demanding responsibilities and stressful pace of life that many of us face today, an increase in the demand of cleaning personnel to alleviate somehow the daily burden is more evident than ever. Nevertheless, as simple as it may seem, if you, or someone you know, are thinking of hiring a cleaner, whether for the office or for home, there are 3 things that must be taken into consideration prior to doing any hiring. The steps outlined below, if diligently followed, will breeze you through a process that you otherwise think is risky and complicated.

The first and most important step, is to make sure that the person or agency in question has a legal permit which allows them to work permanently in the United States. Although doing illegal hiring constitutes cheaper pay, in the long run you will end up losing your employee to immigration officials. In addition, you will be getting in serious trouble with the law, forced to pay very high fines and, in the worse case scenario, spend time in jail. In other words, do things right from the beginning; as you can see, it is not worth taking the risk.

Second, set up an interview to personally meet with the staff who, hopefully, you will be dealing with for a long time. Ask them to bring a list of references which clearly outlines the length of experience in the field, names of previous employers, and keep an eye for "hot buttons" during your screening conversation, such as attitude and image - first time impression is always an important key for most employers and it will help you get a better idea on whether this person is, or is not, the right one for the job.

Third last-but-not-least step, throughly finish your homework by checking the list of references handed to you by the prospect. During the calls, do not hesitate to ask plenty of questions, listen carefully "between the lines" to former employers' comments, especially the reason why they are no longer using the services, as well as the length of employment or contract. Once you are finished doing your background and reference calls, you also have the option to request a "trial test" from the person, which will give you the chance to see whether his or her cleaning performance is up to par with what you are definitely expecting. If the hiring is for office cleaning, and most of the times, the agencies or people have various ongoing contracts, you can stop by any of those offices and get a general view of their work.

The above steps will allow you to:
.Set your mind with an accurate and good profile of the person or company that you are planning to hire.
.Be able to discuss rules, benefits and a fair salary offer with confidence.

Furthermore, if deemed necessary, a simple contract describing the agreement signed by both parties will be the closing touch that will make your selection one that you will not regret in the near future.
