"It’s cool to have a swimming pool in your house. Why, you can have a refreshing splash anytime you feel like it! But maintaining a fantastic look for your pool is not easy. It must undergo pool resurfacing to restore its originally catchy appearance, but swimming pool resurfacing costs much.

There are many ways to conduct swimming pool resurfacing to bring back your pool’s luster. You can reconstruct your old or damaged concrete pool, try fiberglass pool resurfacing or even vinyl pools.

Your swimming pool repair shouldn’t be tedious if only you would apply the proper steps. Here below are what you can do to make your own pool remodeling a success:

1. Chip off the old plaster using jackhammers or picks. When using jackhammers, use the flat edge instead or just point attachments.

2. Run a piercing equipment down through the plaster, separating the old plaster from the original gunite structure (gunite is a type of concrete that is used mostly on swimming pools). You must first remove all the plaster from the gunite material before starting your pool resurfacing activity.

3. Wash the swimming pool shell in a light acid wash using 3:1 part water and muriatic acid ratio. Just see to that there isn’t any loose material left on the swimming pool shell so that the new plaster will adhere to the gunite.

4. Measure your pool. Usually, a pool’s average size is 100 linear feet and must take for about five batches of plaster just to cover its entire surface. Approximately, a batch of plaster consists of five 94 lbs. bags of plaster cement and seven 94 lbs. bags of white marble dust plaster sand.

5. Put a plaster mixer on the deck closely placed to the pool. Then put all the bags of plaster just next to the mixer. It is advisable to use two or more wheelbarrow for running the plaster from the mixer right to the pool.

6. Now, put the plaster mixer to the pool. To immediately spread the plaster around, have at least three to four finishers in the pool using trowels to be able to fill the big voids. The one who will do this task must be wearing shoes with spikes on the bottom, so that they won’t leave footprints on the plaster and be able to walk through the pool without slipping as they do resurfacing.

7. Apply the first coat smoothly, also known as the scratch coat. The main purpose of this coat is to set a foundation and to get the bigger nicks filled in. Just let it set.

8. Make a test. Toss a penny into the pool. If it sticks, then it is not yet time to add the second coat. And if the penny bounces, then it’s time to fire the mixer up and be ready to apply the second coat. The second coat is also the main coat, and after this you can also apply the third coat, which is the finishing coat.

Well, safety is a must. Please observe safety precautions and apply safety gear when doing this task. Have a fantastic swimming pool then!
