If you love unique furniture, another designer you really need to look at is Marc Newson. With his artful designs that stand out, a Marc Newson piece in your house would be sure to turn eyes. Newson is one of the biggest of this generation when it comes to furniture design.

He is young being in his 40’s, and he has already worked with designing of chairs, household objects, restaurants, bicycles, and recording studios among a few things. Newson was born in Sydney and spent the majority of his childhood between Europe and Asia.

At Sydney College he studied sculpture and jewellery design. It was after his graduation that he had the first exhibition for some of his designs; it featured the Lockheed Lounge, which is a stunning piece of art.

Stopping to live for a bit in Tokyo, he worked on the designs Orgone Lounge, his Felt chair, and finally the Black Hole Table. All three are beautiful pieces that were widely shown in Asia and Europe. In the year of 1991, Marc Newson set up a work place in Paris. He has won many jobs for big named places like Ikepod Watch Company, Moroso furniture and Flos for lighting. Finally in 1997 he decided to go to London, where he began Marc Newson Ltd. Here he is able to handle larger projects for commercial accounts, and mass manufacturing of other products. These have included glassware for the well known Iittala, and bicycles for Biomega of Denmark.

Marc Newson is still working on larger accounts, like Qantas to redesign the interior of their aircraft in 2004 and 2005. Marc Newson is truly a design expert and has worked for numerous people. If you ever come across a piece that may be designed by Marc Newson try and purchase it. It would be an outstanding piece to add to your house.

In 2007 Qanta’s displayed the new look of their aircraft that Newson designed. Plus you can see some of his work in museums too. Go and check them out if you get a chance at the Museum of Modern Art located of course in New York, London’s Design Museum, and Vitra Design Museum among a few.
So check out some of Marc Newson’s works. As stated before he has several different pieces of furniture he’s designed, but he has also designed bottle openers, concept cars and even bicycles.

With his hands in so many projects it’s hard to see how Marc Newson can come up with so many designs and keep so busy without just falling over tired!

The Qantas redesign was a huge account to take under and to finish, plus all the other things that he’s accomplished as well. Many awards have caused Marc Newson to be one of the most sought after designers in the world today.
