Many people complain about not having something in their life and then use excuses to legitimize why they do not have it. Most of us have no problem coming up with perfectly valid reasons for not taking action. Our excuses may temporarily make us feel better, yet they do not bring any value to life. Excuses do not pay the bills, they do not solve problems, and they just allow us to justify not taking action.

Common excuses people use; what would other people think?, it’s uncomfortable, I’ll never be as good as ____, it will take too long, no one will care whether I do it or not, I don’t deserve to succeed, it’s too hard, I don’t have the time, I don’t have the money, as you have probably already realized, I could go on and on. Nothing just happens in life. It is a series of decisions; nothing will be real without a decision. In order to have those “somethings” in our life we must be persistent and faithful or we may end up with the results that are the complete opposite of what we desire or dream.

”The best job goes to the person who can get it done without passing the buck or coming back with excuses.” Napoleon Hill

Consistency is the key to the breakthrough; whether that consistency is applied for days, months or years. I have found that the longer I have had a bad habit the longer it takes me to modify it into a good habit.

Many people get caught up in their story and then get stuck. How many times have you heard people talk about the “good ole days”? When we get caught up in our stories we also get caught up in the results. A story I inherited as a child was that I was clumsy, for years I personally told the stories over and over again. Once I realized what I was doing to myself, because believe me I was clumsy, I stopped repeating the stories and replaced them with a new affirmation. I am graceful! To this day I still must be consistent in my affirmation I am graceful; as I could lapse back into those old failure habits. The best part is that today this is much easier to do because I am now reaping the benefits of being graceful.

As we begin to take more action, that action creates more desire, and that desire creates more action. It is our choice; get stuck in a negative cycle or we can break that cycle and create a positive one.

Three steps to choosing the positive cycle over the negative one are;

1) recognize
2) decide
3) action

Recognize that we are creating a result that we do not want is the very first step in obtaining different results. The second step is making a decision to do something differently, change that habit.

”In every success story, you find someone who has made a courageous decision." Peter F. Drucker

The third step is to take action. Take positive action toward the goal; toward the dream you want to achieve. Action is always a choice, so once you have made that decision action is a must; a little or a lot is irrelevant in the beginning so long as you do something.

”Where you find yourself tomorrow is a function of the positive decisions and actions you take today.“ Akin A. Awolaja

How badly you want something is a reflection of amount of action you are willing to take. If you really do not have the desire or the drive for something then you will not make the decision and take the action in order to achieve the goal. In those situations take a close look at the excuse you are using to stop yourself from achieving the goal. Is it an excuse you have used before, are you caught up in one of your stories?

Are you being consistent in your actions, are they daily actions? Remember when we were babies we did not just stand up one day and walk. There are many tests and trials in learning how to walk, however we all passed the test. When we learn to apply the faith and persistence to our life just like we did in learning how to walk it is amazing how our dreams can come true. Remember it is just a choice, make that decision for your dream and take the action now that you know you need to take!

”If you make the unconditional commitment to reach your most important goals, if the strength of your decision is sufficient, you will find the way and the power to achieve your goals." Robert Conklin
