The article, The Mind/Body Continuum Part 1 described our life process as one where spirit seeks to express itself through the physical vehicle of the body. This article continues with a discussion of how we can experience aspects of our Higher Mind directly.

The lower part of Higher Mind can be experienced in a "mind awake, body asleep" condition. Remember that the lower portion of Big Mind contains a repository of our experience, all of it. As a result when the body is asleep which is directly connected to the Local Mind, our everyday operating mind, then Higher Mind is experienced, providing of course awareness does not vacate as in sleep.

This can be experienced as "out-of-body", as in mind out of body. You can sign up for a retreat at the Monroe Institute in Virginia if you would like to attempt this experience for yourself. They are a research organization complete with a lab and controlled holistic environment chambers for guests wishing to be trained to experience the phenomenon described above. They use sound technology among other techniques proven to induce this state in thousands of participants.

I have been there and did get results. For those of you that have had this experience it is as clear as the nose on your face that you are awake and aware of yourself yet you are traveling in varying degrees of dreamlike and/or familiar places.

The higher part of Higher Mind can be experienced in a "Local Mind quiet, body awake" condition. This is akin to meditation. In this condition the body remains awake and upright yet very still as there is no mental activity to disturb it; pure presence is experienced. This is the natural state of the higher portion of Higher mind.

This state can also be induced by various means. The challenge is to decrease the chatter of Local Mind to the point that the ever present awareness of Higher Mind can be experienced. It is always there but is obscured by our constant motion. This is what sustains our living presence in our material form. When it decides to leave, the physical vehicle ceases operation.

Experiencing pure presence can be achieved with some practice and technical support. My own experience with pure presence has been in brief but profound moments of meditation. It is like finally waking up and exclaiming "Of course! I have always known this!" A quiet realization of presence is very much like waking up from a sleep, those moments before you open your eyes and you realize that you are now awake. The difference is that you are actually waking up from your normal awakened state. Those that have had this experience will know what I am talking about.

Look for a future article, Finding The Power of Now, in which I talk about how to directly experience the higher portion of Higher Mind, or pure presence. A lot is written about the power of now but little is written on how to get there.
