Are you like most guys? Is just the thought of going to the mall absolutely nerve wrecking to you? As a result you simply put off shopping for new clothes until the last minute, and your wardrobe only has a limited, but a well-chosen selection that usually seems to be working just fine.

Imagine a Friday comes along and you want to get dressed for a first date with a girl you recently met. Sounds familiar? You open the wardrobe and just can’t find anything that excites you. You want to put more thought and more style into your outfit, but are without many options. Well, don’t panic. Here are a 7 things what NOT to wear on your first date:

1. Don’t cancel on her only because you don’t know what to wear! That is simply stupid. Will she really care that much what you are wearing? If she does, than she is probably not that type of girl you want to bring home to your mom. One of my favorite sayings goes something like this: “Those that care don’t matter, and those that matter don’t care.”

2. Don’t wear clothes from your dad. Chances are he has not much style. Let’s face it: He is married, and like most married men, don’t need to impress their wives with fancy and stylish clothes. He already has a woman! There is no need to impress. Unless you are invited to a 80s theme party, don’t wear your parent’s clothes!

3. Don’t overdress! Wearing a suit and tie might have a classy look that is well suited for many occasions, but not for a first date. Neckties are for business! Instead wear something casual and sporty. It will put her at easy and perceive you as a laid back guy that is “so easy to talk to”.

4. Don’t wear something that was already in your laundry basket! Studies have shown that women have a greater sense of smell than men do. I have observed my sister noticing smells where I thought it was absolutely normal. Wash the clothes and dry them. It is better to show up 10 minutes late than wearing stinky clothes.

5. Don’t wear too much cologne. It will give her a headache. Just remember: Women do have a better sense of smell than men do. Simply spray the cologne once or twice in front of you and walk through the mist. That is all you need!

6. Don’t wear no belt. Women love belts. So do her a favor and wear one!

7. Don’t wear workout clothes. Unless you are having a date at your local gym to show her how much you can bench press, gym clothes are out of place. If you under dress to such extend, you will make her feel like she overdressed. She will feel self-conscious for putting too much effort into looking nice for YOU! Now that is wrong!
