If you are anything like me, you love to travel! I always look forward to going to different places and seeing new things. Age is no obstacle. Most retirees take advantage of that time to see the world. Some are not as fortunate as time runs out before they get the chance.

There are some fortunate young people who have the opportunity to see at least a portion of the world. Anyone who is able to travel has interesting stories to tell. There is a lot to be learned from cultural experiences; hence they should be preserved somehow. Most of us preserve our memories in pictures. Then there are those of us who collect souvenirs from every place we go.

Those souvenirs should be showcased somehow in your home so that when you look at them you will remember your trip. When others look at them, it gives you the opportunity to discuss your trip. That way you’ll never forget your experience.

Your collectibles can be centralized in a specific location like a curio cabinet or sideboard. They could also be distributed throughout your home. A collection of shells from a special island trip could be displayed on an outdoor table between two Adirondack chairs for example. A rug too nice for the floor could serve as a wall hanging to create a cultural theme in that particular room.

Your home could carry an international flair if you love geography that much. Your living room could display item from your original home. The rest of the rooms in the house could reflect different places you’ve been. For example the Moroccan room could be the dining room. The kitchen could be the Tuscany room. The bathroom could be the German room. Did you know that Germany has some the cleanest public bathrooms in the world? After each usage, it washes itself down. The dining room could carry an Oriental flair.

Instead of using purchased pictures for your walls, your pictures will do just fine. You can do so many things today with pictures. They can be copied, cropped, and shrunk to stamp size or expanded to poster size. You can make collages, and shadow box wall hangings using your travel pictures. The best way to accentuate these precious hangings is with the proper lighting.

Whichever way you decide to display your experiences, you should showcase them somehow. You will forever preserve your memories this way. Everyone does not get the opportunity to travel. There are some who don’t get to travel outside of their community. So having a different cultural experience is something to share with others.

After all, that’s the fun of showcasing your travel experiences at home. So the next time you throw a dinner party, have your guests dress in a particular country’s attire and serve dinner in that room of the house. The food must be dishes from that country. Not only will you relive that cultural experience, your guests will live the experience also.
