You haven’t been to Rome if you haven’t been to the public “Squares” that are lurking around this phenomenal area. Undeniably, the public squares of Rome are included in its list of major attractions, not just in the entire city but that of the entire Italy. Most of the time, these squares are even referred to as the “core” of the city.

The squares of Rome, commonly referred to as “Piazza” are must-visit places. They serve as the perfect place where you can observe not just the present Roman life. Rather, these squares represent several centuries in the history of this notable spot in the globe. The squares are splendid places not just for mingling and meeting new friends but for exploring the real essence of the legendary city of Rome. Below are some of the many popular squares that you ought to visit:

Largo di Torre Argentina

This square hosts the four Roman Republican-era temples, along with the remains of the famous Pompey's theater. Such also serves as the home of the quite a huge population of cats that are hated by Mussolini but loved by the local groups that advocate animal rights.

Piazza di Trevi

If you want to find the fabled Fontana di Trevi, then you ought to pay a visit to this Piazza. However, make sure that you visit early because the site is not quite big. Unfortunately, the place can easily get very crowded especially in the afternoons.

Piazza di Spagna

This square is considered as one of the most splendid architectures from the eighteenth century. The spot is quite famous primarily because of the fact that many weddings are held there. Its “Spanish Steps” matched with the impressive Trinita dei Monti church has helped the square achieve worldwide recognition.

Piazza Navona

This square was formerly an ancient stadium that was constructed during the time of the Emperor Domitian. Fortunately, the grounds still retained its shape. Among the most notable cites in the area are the fountains which were created by Bernini.

Campo de' Fiori

This spot is very near Piazza Navona. This place often serves as a marketplace during the day. However, the spot evolves into a party central for college students and tourists alike during the night.

Piazza Pasquino

This Piazza is very near Piazza Navona. Among the most notable landmarks in the area is the statue named "Pasquino". According to the locals, “Pasquino” was one of the local tailors known for his undying complaints. As such, the statue now serves as a place where you can hang complaints, opinions, and other messages. One of the most remarkable enoteca in Rome, the Cul de Sac, is also located in this area.

Piazza del Popolo

The place is the home of the Church of Santa Maria del Popolo. It holds several notable masterpieces such as the Caravaggio, Raffaello, Bernini, Carracci, and many more.

Piazza Venezia

The place is quite prominent because of its overwhelming centerpiece, the enormous Vittorio Emanuele Monument that is also often referred to as the Wedding Cake or the Typewriter. This Piazza is very near to the Forum.
