Van Horn Lace is a relatively new phenomenon to the hair replacement world but it is important to know that it is rare, very few people have the technique to make it and chances are very high if it is being touted by a hair replacement company they probably don’t actually have it.

Mr. Van Horn was a Hollywood wig maker who created a way to treat the fine lace used for the fronts of wigs to help it hold up under the rigors of film making. Usually in the course of making a movie the wig maker will have to replace the front lace of a wig every day. Between the application of the lace front, the makeup and the actual acting the delicate lace becomes worn very quickly so a daily re-front was always the way. The treatment was developed help get a little more time out of each front and keeps the re-fronting down. There is one hair piece factory that has the formula for this lace treatment and maybe a handful of wig makers so it remains a rarity to the general public but the benefits are unbelievable to the consumer. A Van Horn Lace is basically a fine Swiss Lace on steroids. You get the light natural appearance and realistic hair line but you get a durability that is not possible with other laces. It is harder to tear, easy to ventilate a very tight knot, which is essentially when making a front hair line look like the hair is growing out of the scalp, and will hold up twice as long to daily wear than an untreated lace. It’s not easy to find and can be expensive but definitely worth every penny spent to obtain it if you wear a lace system.

There are all kinds of different types of lace out there with many different kinds of names. Swiss lace, French lace, welded mono, and the list goes on and on. Often the same lace can be called different names by different hair replacement companies. One thing is for sure – Van Horn lace for hair replacement systems is a very unique type of lace and there is a big contrast between Van Horn lace and typical mainstream types of lace widely available. If you are able to source Van Horn lace for your own hair replacement systems, consider yourself lucky, however be wary that there are very few commercial retail hair replacement companies that offer this product, so you’ll have to be extra diligent to be sure you aren’t getting a lesser quality lace that is being touted as Van Horn lace. Be sure to ask a lot of questions of your hair replacement company if they intend to sell you Van Horn lace in your hair piece.
