One of the important things that need to be considered in installing a wall shelf is the type of material that needs to be used. This is due to the fact that there are different types of materials that are available for anyone who is planning a wall shelf and each has its own set of unique characteristics. This contributes to confusion for many people especially those who don’t have the vaguest idea on what type of material is most suited for their needs.

This confusion is what makes a wood wall shelf very ideal for those who don’t want the hassle of evaluating all of the different types that are available. This is because wood is a very common material that can easily be acquired from almost anywhere like hardware stores, garages and sheds. Aside from that, any type can be used, from plywood or engineered wood to real wood itself. Also, if you want to avoid the hassle of assembling, you can also easily acquire already finished ones from furniture shops and online stores. And with only basic carpentry skills and tools, it can be easily installed.

Other advantages of a wood wall shelf as compared to other types of wall shelves is that it can be easily customized to whatever shapes and designs that the owner wants it to be. Also this particular type of shelf can be used to carry a wide range of objects from small items like picture frames and statuettes to large objects like books and aquariums. Lastly, a wall shelf that is made of wood is safer because it is not easily broken or bent unlike other types of wall shelves.

Like everything else, a wood wall shelf also has its own disadvantages. Unlike other types of materials, a wall shelf that is made of wood is heavier. This can prove to be a predicament in the process of installation or assembly especially if you are constructing a wall shelf that is large or has many layers. Aside from that a wall shelf that is made of wood is also more difficult to clean since wood has the tendency to absorb chemicals unlike the other types of wall shelf materials.

However, like all types of wall shelves, installing one that is made of wood requires also the basic steps. That is you need to gather all the materials which include the board, the supports and brackets and the carpentry tools and equipments. Then you just need to attach it to the wall making sure that it’s secure and aligned. During attachment, make sure that you also keep in mind the type of wall that you have. The only difference is in building a wood wall shelf because it can be easily cut into various shapes and sizes depending on your preferences unlike other types of materials for wall shelves which must be brought pre – made or already included in kits.
