Business and personal safes for storing currency come with different degrees of security, which is based on the amount of currency they hold, with varying degrees of security.

When you hear of "Cash Rating Safes", increasing security and safety measures are built in to increase as currency levels increase. In addition, a cash rating is the amount of cash an insurance company will offer overnight cover and this can vary between insurance companies and may be higher or lower than the rating. * Grade 6- £150,000

As the Grade gets higher, protection increases, triple steel walls, concrete filled walls, dual locking system of key and combination or replacement of one entry with electronic, multiple locking areas, drill-proof locking mechanisms, some have fire protection, and some do not. It is important to realise, that since insurance cover is 10 times the cash rating, it is obvious that the security on a Grade 6, for example, with an insurance cash rating of 150,000, is going to fall under a jewellery and valuable insurance cover of 150,0000, so protection, materials and workmanship will reflect the additional insurance cover.

Digital electronic access eliminates the possibility of security compromise in the event of safe key theft or combination theft, however, most cash rated safes in the higher grades offer dual locking mechanisms in case of failure of one or the other. Digital Electronic Access allows you to change an access code easily and quickly, immediately locking out other users and possible security breaches. A combination of two locking mechanisms, especially involving a key, limits access in that entry would be necessary by having a key and knowing the combination or electronic access code.

It is important to note, that if you store more cash than the safe is rated for and a burglary occurred, an insurance cover may not reimburse more than the safe is rated for. On the same note, if jewellery and valuables or a combination of cash and jewellery exceed those ratings, the full contents may not be reimbursed under insurance cover. It is important that you purchase a safe that will offer the insurance cover for the actual contents of the cash rating safe, and that your locking mechanisms offer security in access to the safe, and it is recommended that you purchase a safe that also has a fire rating for higher grades of cash and valuables storage, as well.
