Baby Vitamins –A, B, C, D, E and K

Vitamins and minerals supplements are not essential for a healthy baby until the breastfeeding is continuing. Mother’s milk is the most excellent for baby fulfilling all needs of baby. A lot of researches have exposed that there is no need to supply any extra or more nutrients to a baby if it is completely or totally healthy. Yes, if your baby is underweight or not healthy by any means, it is to be supplied with rich nutrients. Though, pediatricians suggest or recommended a various kinds of vitamins supplements to be on safer side still to the healthy baby and therefore, vitamin supplements have become one of the schedules prescribed items in doctor’s list.

Breast milk is measured to be nectar for a baby at least up to 6-7 months. Studies have exposed that fluoride, water, juice, vitamins, formula, iron and solid foods are very less helpful to healthy breastfed babies particularly during first 6 months of their lives and opposite to that, some could be unsafe if given without any need.

No supplements should be given to breastfeeding newborns unless a medical sign exists. Exclusive breastfeeding is perfect nutrition and enough to support optimal development and growth for about the first 6 months later than birth.

On the other hand, babies which are premature and having low birth weight should be supplied by some extra vitamins and minerals from outside. These vitamins can be added to mother’s milk and after that given to baby.

Here is the list of vitamins that play a vital role in baby’s development and growth of good milestones.

Vitamin A

Breast milk is measured to be natural and outstanding source of vitamin A. It is helpful for eyes and other bodily functions like it helps in development and repairing body tissues. It also helps in building body’s immunity and help in night vision. They can be supplied as vitamin A drops straight to the baby and as food as in eggs, dark green, dairy products, liver and yellow vegetables and fruits.

Vitamin B

This is one of the most significant vitamins. Vitamin B has a lot of sub vitamin groups and therefore, it is known as vitamin B complex. Right from the day one when a woman conceives, she has to begin taking vitamin B complex. This is to be done at any cost as it excellent and adequate supplement of this group of will make sure good development of embryo and it will build mother’s body also. One of the vitamin from this group, Vitamin B2 or riboflavin are usually not suggested for breastfed babies as it is very rare particularly in developed countries.

In similar manner, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 are also very significant and required to be supplied to mother and in a number of cases when the baby is underweight, to the baby. Vitamin B complex helps baby in carbohydrate and protein metabolism, formation of antibodies, blood cell formation, nervous system maintenance and in building immunity.

Vitamin C

This is also called as Ascorbic acid and is very significant for wound healing, collagen maintenance and it also builds resistance next to various infections. It is equally significant for healthy gums and blood vessels. Vitamin C can be establish in almost all citrus fruits, tomatoes, berries, green and red peppers, broccoli and melons. You can also get a number of medicated drops contain Vitamin C in it. The dosage is to be fixed as per the age and weight of the child and has to be determined by pediatrician.

Vitamin D

The American Academy of Pediatrics suggest you that you should give your baby a supplement of 200 IU per day of vitamin D if it is completely breastfed or drinks less than 17 ounces per day or fortified formula. Breast milk are transferred in breast milk, while fortified formula contains enough amount of Vitamin D. Infant vitamins normally give 400 IU of vitamin D, it is the same amount that is found in 33 ounces of infant formula. Mind it that baby can securely take up to 1000 IU per day of vitamin D and therefore, the amount found in formula or a supplement shall not be too much.

Vitamin E

You can supply vitamin E from outside as it is obtainable in the form of pills or drops. It is also called as tocopherol. It helps as free radical scavenger and it almost certainly has role in developing immunity.

Along with vitamins, minerals are also significant for baby’s development. Fluoride, iron and zinc are similarly beneficial for baby’s health and protection. They give immunity and also nice growth of the bodily systems.

Vitamin K

This is very significant for infants and hence, the injection containing Vitamin K is right away given to newborns. This is done to defend child or newborn from internal bleeding. This will check out any internal bleeding and Vitamin K will stop it and hence, will stop the further damage in the body.
