Beginner’s Guide: Bodybuilding in the Comfort of Your Home

There are three ways that you can begin your own personal journey into the rich and rewarding world of bodybuilding:

• Join a fitness club or a gym and sign up for classes

• Engage in the lifestyle and eventually compete

• Build your home gym and work out whenever you can

Pros and cons

Joining a fitness club or a gym for your needs as a novice bodybuilder is one of the more popular choices among the three. All you need is to sign up and pay on a weekly, monthly or yearly basis to obtain access to the facilities. You may even enroll in classes in these places.

The downside to this approach is mainly time: for working professionals, working out at night will take a toll on their bodies, especially if they work more than eight hours a day. The time that can be used for rest would be diverted to the regular workouts at the gym.

While some people are fine with this and can readily adapt to the grueling new regimen, some won’t- which brings us to the question: will it be worth it? If you’re dedicated to building your physique then you won’t mind the extra work and of course, fewer hours of sleep. If not, and you still push through with enrolling in the local gym, there’s a large chance that you will quit going to the gym before the year ends.

Engaging in the lifestyle entails the same sacrifices as enrolling in classes in the local gym- and more. Competing professionally is no joke- you have to reduce the level of fat in your body and build hard muscle to be able to compete professionally.

Professional bodybuilders often have jobs that are related to their passion, and so work and pleasure are mixed interminably on a daily basis.

For those who can’t go professional or join a gym, there remains one beacon of hope: a home bodybuilding gym. How can you make your own gym at home?

Available space = home gym

To create your own gym at home, select a space in the house that would be able to house your new gym equipment. Make sure that this space in the house has good air ventilation. As much as possible, there should be regular air exchange between that room in the house and the outside of the house.

Start with the basic equipment: purchase the appropriate dumbbells and barbells. A set of dumbbells and a barbell with weights that are increasingly heavier are musts in a home gym.

There must always be ample lighting inside the home gym. Next purchase resistance machines such as butterfly machines and swimming machines. These equipment build strength, as well as endurance and stamina. Obtain at least one for your home gym.

It is advisable that you consult with a professional bodybuilding instructor regarding your new home gym. Before you start throwing those metals around, make sure that you already have a regimen with you, designed completely from the number of sets you have to complete in a day to what you can eat in the coming months.
