Buying a cat is not like picking out an item of furniture . The furniture will not be interacting with your family and you - it's not alive with it's own needs and personality. Neither is buying a cat as simple as pointing your finger at a cat in the shop and saying that you want that one. Buying a cat is an exciting time, which will result in a new member being added to your family. It is your choice what type of cat you purchase, as well as where the animal comes from, but you should know what you are getting into before taking a kitten or cat off someone else’s hands.

Older cats will probably have had most of their immunizations (will still require boosters though) . But there are dealers out there who are only in it for the money. You need to make sure you feel comfortable buying a cat from the person you’re buying from.

Breed is not necessarily the best determinant of beauty when you are buying a cat. A kind, gentle, affectionate cat can be any breed, or any mixture of breeds. Many people opt for a fully grown cat, but you may prefer a kitten.. A great reason to go with a kitten is the fact that she doesn't have any bad habits just yet, but kittens need to be trained too and this can take up a great deal of your time (and patience!).

If you buy your cat from an animal welfare agency, you need to be cautious of vaccinations and the demeanour of the creature. Find out as much about the animal as you can. They need animal based proteins found in meats. Canned foods are a good source of this.

Cat toys are available in many different materials such as knits, cloth, real fur, fleece, rope and leather. If your cat tends to bite, chew or claw his or her toys a lot, you may want to consider buying cat toys made in tough materials such as rope and leather so that the pet toys last longer. After doing this a few times, you will probably stop buying her expensive toys and get creative at making stuff at home. One simple thing that cats love is a piece of aluminium foil rolled into a ball and thrown at it. Playing with your cat is a great way to keep her active and it's fun for you too.

Very often smart cats can figure out how to escape its collar, this is an important safety feature that you should seriously consider. So with this in mind buy a collar made of a material that can be easily cut through in emergencies.

Christmas is not the best time to introduce your cat to it’s new home. There is likely to be more activity, noise and general disturbances than usual at this time. Whatever the time of year if your home is new territory to them, placing the bed in a quiet corner of a room or under a table will help her feel protected from threats. Monitor your cat when the heat soars. If possible, return home on your lunch hour to make sure the water dish is filled and that your cat appears healthy and happy. Put something non-slippery like newspapers or cardboard underneath the litter box. A normal rate to increase the height of the litter box would be about 5cm a day, but be very attentive to signs that your cat is not comfortable with the current height, and adjust the pace of raising the litter box accordingly.
