When doing business, always be wary when someone mentions the word ‘free’, because it usually precedes some fine print that you would more than likely overlook at some point, which would inevitably lead you to kicking yourself sometime down the line. Often used in grand statements of over-promise, the term ‘free’ is most synonymous in desperate situations where nothing else works. How often do you see something that works, something that has the potential to earn you a whole bunch of revenue being offered freely? Not often, no doubt. So should you trust companies offering you a free business mailing list for your marketing efforts? This article will tell you the answer.

One thing you need to remember is that these offers of free business mailing lists are often targeted towards those who are involved in home-based businesses, more often than not home virtual marketers or telemarketers. If you’re one of the people embarking on a home-based marketing career, then surely a free business mailing list would appeal to you. You might suddenly find yourself seeing dollar signs right before your eyes; after all, you’re getting a source of revenue without having to fork out a single cent. Before you get too happy at the thought of it, stop, take a breather, and get a reality check.

Think about it for a second. If you’re being offered a free business mailing list, what makes you think that no one else is getting that same list for free? It’s fine if one or two people have the same list, but if the list is available freely for everyone to use, then imagine if the number of marketers is greater than the number of prospects on that list. Does it sound as appealing now?

The problem with free business mailing lists is that they’re usually compiled with little thought in mind to the nature of the product that the marketer is selling, the demographic of the target audience, and the readiness of the potential prospect to purchase the product or service you’re pitching. These lists are not targeted towards the right audience, so using such lists is as good as you stabbing your pencil on a random number in the phonebook. You are never sure of the prospects intentions to buy, or even if they’re interested in hearing you out. Most people who are turned off from telemarketing are usually those who have experienced annoyed prospects who aren’t ready to buy, or worse still, who have had dozens of other telemarketers call them prior because those telemarketers are using the same lists containing the exact same prospects.

Don’t be miserly when it comes to investing in a good reliable business mailing list. Obtaining one from a reputable listings company can make all the difference in your marketing success. There are many companies out there that provide such lists for a premium, and it’s quite reasonable for them to sell their hard earned compilation. These companies usually tailor-make their lists according to the niche you’re in, so you’ll have higher chances of hitting your sales target because the prospects in these highly qualified lists are targeted towards that particular niche. Forget about getting a free business mailing list; invest in a proper, reliable one today and start making those sales now!
