If you are someone who does not have much artistic ability if any, you too can paint on glasses and create a lovely piece. That is the neat thing about painting on glasses, they are easy to do and can look nice even if just a simple pattern is used. Maybe even something laying around your house can be used for the design. Let your imagination run free with this one.

I have seen some really neat art work that is made by placing polka dots in random placements all over a piece, or placed together in certain patterns to form a more structured design. Items that can be used to create the polka dots are pencil tips, the eraser on a pencil, the end of a paint brush, and a stylus. These are just a few items that come to mind. I love painting with dots, big and small. They can add more interest even to piece that I am able to hand paint.

Maybe even consider different brush strokes like the dry brush stroke using a flat paint brush. Multiple colored swirls and squiggles all over in different colors can create a festive look. Painting different shapes everyone is familiar with like squares, triangles, and rectangles. That would be a nice contemporary look.

Many artists are open to answering questions from those who are trying to learn to do different mediums. If you are in doubt about a process or products I would suggest making contact with someone who works with the type of product your are interested in. You will find most are willing to help new people out with their questions. I know that I for one am always glad to help out. I have done this many times to learn what I have learned up to this point. There is always something new to learn and new products to try. I also feel it is important to not be afraid to jump in and try new things. If you are not so great at it in the beginning, that is okay too. Remember, practice makes perfect!

You will be amazed at how you will progressively get better the more you practice and work with your products. Everyone has to start somewhere. We did not all start off being good at what we are doing. We had an interest and the passion that led us to work hard and learn. The learning part is something that never stops. There are constantly new products being introduced along new techniques. To be competitive you must keep up with the trends and what people want. Being in the world of art can be very competitive. Keep in mind that each person puts their own personality in to their work.
Even if we create similar pieces, they will always be slightly different. If people like your work, they like your work and if they like someone else’s better that okay too. It is all a matter of an opinion.

You could even use a sponge and pounce the color on to the glass. It does not have to be a special sponge. Any will do. Keep an open mind and the designs ideas will follow. Remember to have fun. That's what it is all about!
