Wanna see descriptions of a few major tourist attractions and events in Calgary? Most of this good stuff occurs in the summer in Calgary. Canada has some great outdoor activities during this time and these ones can be found right in Calgary, Alberta, or very close to this city of a million.

Next time you travel somewhere unusual, consider including Calgary on your list of ideas for family destinations. Let your children know about some of these fun stops and you will have some willing passengers in your group who may even be wearing cowboy hats in anticipation of an upcoming Calgary Stampede. Here's a bit about just a few of the family friendly attractions to be found in this well loved area.

Calaway Park is the largest outdoor family amusement facility that you will find in Western Canada' and it is one place that your children will definitely want to see. Find a variety of activities, and while some of the teens may enjoy the 23 rides and 22 food establishments, others in the group can fish for rainbow trout, watch a musical show, or play mini-golf. This is one of those special places that really does have something for everyone. This attraction lies about 10km to the west of Calgary. From May to September, you can camp on site or pull up to the RV Park, where you are also treated to a beautiful, panoramic view of the Rockies.

Visitors and natives alike all enjoy seeing The Calgary Stampede. Starting the first week of July and lasting ten days, this show is often referred to as being the best outdoor show ever. Even the businesses in Calgary virtually come to a halt when Stampede time occurs. You can to watch as everyone joins in the fun.

Dressing like cowboys is just part of the fun. While western wear is the outfit of choice for both males and females, check out street dances, music, pancake breakfasts, and plenty of outdoor parties for all to enjoy. Then there's the midway and rodeo set up at Stampede Park. Enjoy to the famed chuck wagon races, stage shows, casino style gambling, and plenty of free entertainment for all. Every year, over one million guests come to take part in the Calgary Stampede excitement.

Other things to do in Calgary

Does traveling to the Orient sound like fun, but your budget needs something to do that is a little less extravagant? You can do a little Calgary sightseeing in the heart of the city and then head over for a day of browsing some Asian delights. Then bring your family to the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre.

This is a great exhibit that is located in downtown Calgary, beside Eau Claire. The Chinese Cultural Centre has an enormous six-story Great Cultural Hall constructed to look like the Temple of Heaven found in Beijing, China.

You can tour the Centre, which includes a museum, arts and crafts, and one of several Chinese restaurants that serve some very tasty food. Depending on the time of year, you will often find a number of special shows and events that are being held here.

Next stop: Heritage Park, Calgary. This Park is Canada's largest on-going historical village. It is conveniently located only a short 15 minute drive from the downtown area. Take Calgary Transit if you want instead of doing the driving yourself.

Guests can spend several days taking in the park’s many exhibits. They can find over 100 buildings and exhibits that cover 66 acres. This historical re-creation conveys the feel of turn of the century prairie life. You can walk down the Main Street of yesteryear, ride a train powered by a steam locomotive or cruise the breathtaking Reservoir on the S.S. Moyie, a grand paddlewheel vessel. There is an old-fashioned midway for the younger children and adults can let them play while they walk about and enjoy the view.
