Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will release a new album, the aptly titled Working on a Dream, January 27, 2009 via Columbia Records. On November 16 excerpts from the album’s title track were debuted during NBC’s NFL halftime show and Springsteen and his famed band are slated to take the stage as headliners for the half time show of Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, Florida on February 1, 2009. Working on a Dream includes 12 tracks of new material as well as bonus tracks in the form of “The Wrestler” (from the film of the same name starring Mickey Rourke) and “A Night With the Jersey Devil” (which was a free giveaway from Springsteen on Halloween.) Working on a Dream is the follow-up to 2007’s Magic, which was also produced by Brendan O’Brien on basic tracks and the E Street Band was brought in during breaks from Springsteen’s rampant touring schedule when needed in the studio. Springsteen told Billboard that “All the songs were written quickly—we usually used one of our first takes.” The full track listing for Working on a Dream is: “Outlaw Pete,” “My Lucky Day,” “Working on a Dream,” “Queen of the Supermarket,” “What Love Can Do,” “This Life,” “Good Eye,” “Tomorrow Never Knows,” “Life Itself,” “Kingdom of Days,” “Surprise, Surprise,” and “The Last Carnival” (with bonus tracks “The Wrestler” and “A Night With the Jersey Devil”.)

The Boss will be the fifth consecutive veteran to take the stage for the Super Bowl’s halftime show, as the NFL has booked Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Prince and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in recent years after Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake’s jaw-dropping 2004 performance. Prince and Tom Petty received increased record sales after their NFL performances - not that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band need it! The Boss just wrapped up a world tour in support of 2007’s Magic in August and ticket sales did not falter. Springsteen has been making rock and roll music meant for the working class citizens of America for nearly four decades after first scoring with his 1975 album Born to Run. Although Springsteen had been making music for nearly a decade upon its release, his career really took off with Born to Run and the New Jersey native has never looked back, releasing a string of successful albums like 1978’s Born in the U.S.A. During this time, Springsteen became known for his constant touring with his E Street Band, which he disbanded in 1989. Luckily for fans, the E Street Band was brought back in 1995 for a few recordings and they officially reunited in 1999, subsequent to Springsteen’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
