Ibiza, the most popular of the Balearic Islands is a tiny island lying 90 kms of the coast of Spain. It forms part of the Balearic Islands along with Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera. The island itself is only 45 kms wide and 25 kms long, and is well known for having a spectacular coastline; plenty of tiny coves, broad beaches of fine sand, or areas of dunes are declared World Heritage by UNESCO.

The city of Ibiza is divided into Sa Penya, known as ciudad baja (lower city) and Dalt Vila, a monumental area located on the higher part of the city, declared World Heritage Site. Ibiza Town really is the most fascinating part of the island, day or night. Here concentrate, in glorious living colour all the attractions and eccentricities which have made Ibiza world famous. The visitor can stroll through the winding lanes of the Port, soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of Ibiza by night, wander up through the cobbled streets of the Old Town to admire the stunning views across the bay, or browse through the many and varied stalls shops.

Ibiza has numerous sights such as the Old Town of Ibiza also called D'alt Vila, built in 1554, and surrounded by various walls of which some are only partly excavated. The imposing walls are the product of the Italian architect Calvi in the 16th century; one of the two only fortifications in Europe that still has its complete original structure. The Puig des Molins Nekropolis one of the largest and best preserved underground tombs in the world, left here by Phoenicians with its impressive Cova de ses Llegostes, a natural cave, open to the sea, which now houses an aquarium is one of the most beautiful hidden places of Ibiza.

Ibiza is one of the most popular places to party in Europe and has some of the best nightclubs in the world. It attracts year after year young people and young at heart from everywhere, although it also offers a wide range of options for those not interested in the club scene. There are many other activities suitable for visitors of all ages and preferences. Ibiza offers a wide range of water sport such as sailing, jet skiing, parasailing, scuba diving, boating activities such as deep sea fishing, cruises, sea kayaking, waterskiing, catamaran sailing, canoeing, rowing, speedboat trips and of course pedalo's, hydro bikes.

Ibiza's culinary heritage is a mirror of its culture and its history. Its special dishes reflect the culinary habits of an island at the crossroads, a melting pot of different cultures where age-old recipes and techniques have been preserved in a great many original preparations. A very typical fish entree is ray with almonds, called burrida de ratjada and made with nuts of the regions. Another popular recipe is the delicious coques, which are square pasties filled with meat, fish or chopped vegetables. A meal is never complete if it is not finished off with one of the splendid local desserts. Coca de albaricoques (apricot cakes), the very traditional ensaimadas which are famous world-wide. Traditional liqueurs are normally served with these delicious desserts or sometimes even as a drink before the meal.
