One of the major contributing factors of hair loss is stress. Stress causes hair loss as it constricts the blood vessels in the scalp, and this in turn prevents the scalp from receiving the nutrients that it needs in order to grow hair.

For most individuals, stress is a part of everyday life, whether it is work-related, financial or emotional. This constant stress takes a toll on the body, and one's hair often suffers visible damage. The hair on the scalp gets thin, it loses its shine and in many cases it also falls out. Thinking and worrying about hair loss increases stress levels and can serve to accelerate one's rate of hair loss. Instead of focusing on what can be done to promote hair growth, individuals lament over their hair loss and reminisce about how their hair used to look years ago.

The best thing to do when overwhelmed by stress is to take up activities which help to reduce the amount of pressure and tension that is being felt. One activity that I would strongly recommend is aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise releases endorphins in the body. Endorphins produce a sense of well-being, a feeling of deep relaxation.

I have found that this relaxed state can last for several hours. During this period of time, my mind does not race between thoughts as it usually does. I am more focused on the task at hand and not as easily distracted. I find that if I ride the treadmill before going to work, I am able to work very efficiently for the entire morning, and my mind does not wander off into thoughts about hair loss. Overall, I feel that my stress levels are lower on days when I can squeeze a workout in.

When performing aerobic workouts, I think it is a very good idea to exercise with a friend. Aerobic workouts can be very grueling, and it is great to have a friend with you who can motivate you to do your best. If you are used to running two miles, for example, a friend can motivate you to run two and a half miles. If you are running alone and reach the two mile mark and are exhausted, there would be no one to encourage you to increase your personal best. At the same time, you can also provide motivation to your friend to run a little further than he previously has. By performing aerobic workouts with a friend, it is easier to make improvements in your performance.

After performing aerobic exercises for several weeks, I noticed that my scalp did not feel as tight as it once did. The blood flow to the scalp had improved, and it was now able to receive the important nutrients that it needed in order to promote hair growth. My hair was regaining the shine that it once had, and it no longer looked dull and lifeless.

Dietary habits are very important in order to have healthy hair, but it is also very important to control your stress levels so that your hair can reap the maximum benefits of the healthy foods that you eat.
