The life of the people in Georgia, USA from over 400 years ago is depicted in Itowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site. Explore the museum for knowing the daily life of self sufficient American community.

Large mounds are found depicting the Chief’s house, the temple and mortuary houses. In many mounds nobility is buried along with items a person needs after death. Many artifacts show that people used to decorate themselves with complicated hairdos, tattoos, feathers, copper ear jewelery and shell beads.

If you want to see the ancient rice plantation then come to Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation State Historic Site. Visitors can walk below the oak trees to the homes with fine antiques and gaze into the fields where rice once flourished.

By the time civil war erupted the plantation drive, hurricanes, war and the lack of labor ended the rice empire. The rice business changed into the Dairy business that distributed a high quality of milk in Glynn County which also came to an end in 1942.

New Echota Cherokee Capital State Historic Site exhibits several original and reconstructed buildings of the olden times when native tribes used to live, before the arrival of white folk.

Visitors can see the Supreme Courthouse, a Cherokee homeland, the council house, the restored house of the missionary Samuel A. Worcester and Vann’s Tavern. In the reconstructed print shop the original copies of bilingual (English and Cherokee) paper printed by a hand machine can also be seen.

With its strong political base, the Georgian Governors encouraged the general public to invest in Georgia. In the 20th century, Atlanta as the capital of Georgia emerged as a leader in social, political and economic progress of the nation.

In January 1977, a Ex-Georgian Governor was elected as the President of USA, Jimmy Carter went to the White House.

Lush, landscaped and woodlands are all there in 30 acres of Atlanta Botanical Garden. It is a home for rare and endangered plants. Here you have a Botanical Garden and a Museum gift shop. Lunch is served from April to October.

In Underground Atlanta the city beneath the streets is alive with activity. Authentic store fronts and historic buildings are both below and above the streets. It is a center for fun, entertainment, shopping and dining.

‘America’s favorite Zoo’ is Zoo Atlanta showing 1000 different animals living in their natural habitats. The Zoo is located in historic Grant Park and has lions, black rhinos, African elephants, gorillas, flamingos, ostriches, zebras and orangutans.

Timings are different: From April-Oct.9:30am to 4:30pm from Monday to Friday, Sat.-Sun 9:30am to 5:30pm and from Nov. To March 9:30am to 4:30pm all days. It’s best to contact them in advance.

Georgia Sports Hall of Fame is the athletic heritage in 43,000 sq ft facility. All the sports person at the school, college, professional and amateur are exhibited with their photographs.

Through education, training and research, King Center is the official national and international continuing work of the legendary Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
