The Spanish explored this area of land in 1592 and brought things like pigs, horses, tomatoes, beans, corn and garlic here.

Later mountain men lived as trappers and hunters and there are many sites and trails here showing their history.

The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail represents the most dramatic expedition which occurred from 1804 to 1806. In the Expedition Historic Trail it explores how the “West was Won” as Americans passed through Idaho on their way.

Then by 1860 many Mexican Cowboys had come according to the 1870 census.

In 1882 Gold was first discovered followed by silver, lead and zinc and there are museums today that project the mining stories of workers, and unique recreational adventures from ghost towns to gold panning.

Later there was an increase in the population of African-Americans including the one who built the first mission in the Northwest. The 1900 Idaho census listed 940 African-Americans.

During the late 1890s most Idaho workers constructing the railroad were Japanese. Idaho’s territorial legislature in 1867 passed a statute making it a community property state.

Four companies of troops were sent to control the striking miners here in 1899.

From 1900 to 1920 many Basque immigrants came to Idaho from the Pyrenees to work as sheepherders.

In 1972 Idaho became the first state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.

The Mining Memorial was erected in remembrance of the fire of 1972 in which 91 miners were killed. A Sculpture of a miner raising his drill is surrounded by plaques listing the names of the dead.

Old Mission State Park is the oldest standing building in Idaho and was built in 1848 to 1853. The interpretive exhibits describe the area and the of course Indian Heritage as well at the visitor center. It has a large grassy area for picnics.

The structure was carefully woven with straw, mud and wooden pegs.The mission became a state park in1975.

Silverwood Theme Park is a turn of the century and pay-one-price theme park. It includes 24 slides, restaurants, live shows, games, shops, trains, attractions airstrip and Recreational Vehicles Park.

In Beamer’s Hell Canyon get a guided jet boat tours on a snake river and just enjoy the ride.

Boise River Tours are fun, informative and relaxing raft trips. You can explore the flora and fauna, history and geology as you travel down the river or even close by.

1890’s style puffer belly open air train is available at Boise Tour Train. City, Customised and Charter tours are available with meals served.

Welcome to a pool with waves at Roaring Springs Water Park with a 16,000 sq foot wave pool. Boats keep tubing in this 15 acre family water park. It has 4-lane long racing slides. It also has water falls and entertainment area.

The details of the Ponderosa State Park ranges from sagebrush flats to dense woods and covers most of the 1000 acres of the peninsula.

In the park you can enjoy self-guided hiking, guided walks with park naturalists and a campfire in the night.
