The Kodak EasyShare system is designed to streamline the process of taking pictures, transferring them to your computer, and sharing them over the internet. In brief, a picture is taken with an EasyShare-compatible camera. The camera is placed in a docking station, where the photos are transferred to the computer with the touch of a button. Finally, the EasyShare software on the computer allows you to organize, digitally modify, print, or share the photos over the internet quickly and easily.

Kodak’s wide range of EasyShare-compatible digital cameras runs the spectrum from simple, cheap point-and-shoot cameras to more expensive, feature-rich cameras for the amateur photography enthusiast. All cameras include high-quality lenses and Kodak’s Color Science Technology.

Similarly, Kodak offers a range of EasyShare docking stations. Simpler, less expensive models do only the very basics of transferring the pictures to a computer and recharging the camera’s battery. Other, more advanced models, are integrated with photo printers, putting all the equipment you need in one small, compact package.

The EasyShare software is robust, versatile, and free. It provides a range of different photography tools all in one package. First, it acts as a storage and organization tool for all your pictures. Considering the number of photos you take can quickly grow into the hundreds in just a few months, this feature is more important and useful than many digital photography beginners realize. EasyShare lets you label your pictures in two ways. First, you can add Tags, such as “Christmas 07” or “Summer Vacation”. Second, you can give each picture a star rating, awarding it from one to five stars. You can then organize your photos by tag, star rating, or date. You can also search your collection of photos by tag or star rating, enabling you to find the picture you’re looking for quickly out of the hundreds you’ve taken and stored.

The EasyShare software also includes digital editing software. Although not as fully featured as, say, Adobe Photoshop, it does everything an amateur family photographer could ask of it, and makes it easy. With just one click, “red eye” can be removed from photographs, the contrast can be optimized, text added to a photo, or an electronic face-lift applied thought the Facial Retouch feature. A set of “Creative Project” tools allow you easily integrate your photos into thank you cards, invitations, holiday cards, and calendars, to name just a few. A few clicks will take you to the Kodak Gallery, where you can order your photo places on coffee mugs, playing cards, etc., and delivered to you. Finally, if you camera can record video, the EasyShare software comes equipped with a basic set of video editing tools, allowing you to trim, splice, rotate, and add music to videos. Best of all, with just one click, you can upload the video to YouTube.

Finally, the EasyShare software has a set of tools to make sharing your photos easy. It can automatically resize and optimize the photo for emailing, and send it out as an attachment. Or, if you don’t like cluttering up your outbox with dozens of picture attachments, you can set up and online photo album through EasyShare, then only send your friends a link to the album. Friends and family can print the photos from the online gallery, too. Finally, one click can transfer the pictures to a memory card, so you can take them with you and transfer them to other computers or electronic devices.

The Kodak EasyShare system’s main strength is integrating all the aspects of digital photography into one streamlined package. Although professional photographer may find the EasyShare systems to rigid and limited, for the average family photographer, the EasyShare system does everything they could want and more, and makes it fast and simple.
