The Christmas and New Year holiday periods are peak times at the resorts in Orlando, Florida, and visitors are treated to a number of special attractions during this festive season. Let’s take a look at what is on offer this year.

Universal’s Orlando resort is transforming its Seuss Landing (at the Universal Islands of Adventure) into a wintry setting for “Grinchmas.” As in years past, there will be a live musical performance of the ever-popular show “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

This live performance features the recorded music of Mannheim Steamroller.

At the nearby Universal Studios you can take in the famous Macy’s Holiday Parade. This is the same parade that has filled the streets of New York with balloons, floats, marching bands and holiday joy for many decades. The parade finishes with a memorable tree lighting accompanied by music and a dazzling light show.

Universal Studios also features a live performance of holiday music performed by Mannheim Streamroller on Saturday, December 6, 2008.

Don’t worry about paying extra for these attractions because they are all covered by the admission. That’s why it is best to get a 2-Park Ticket so that you can be sure to enjoy everything.

If you want an extra special holiday experience then treat your family to a Grinchmas Character Breakfast. A special fee is needed for this but it is worth it as you can select dates from December 6th through January 1st and enjoy a lavish buffet where you can dine with The Grinch and many more Seuss characters, even including a “Who” or two. Space is limited so it is important to reserve your space in advance by calling 1-407-224-4012.

The celebration doesn’t end at the parks and Universal’s onsite hotels, such as the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Royal Pacific Resort will all feature special holiday entertainment. Whether you are visiting in November or December Universal is eager to make your vacation an unforgettable experience with dining, holiday entertainment, cookie decorating, Santa Claus visits, Hanukkah candle lightning and character dining.

As mentioned above you can find accommodations on site at the Universal Resort or you can also opt for nearby vacation home rentals. Some of the rental homes are in resort communities that are minutes away from either Disney World or the Universal Resort. Whatever accommodations you chose, you are sure to have a lot to do during the winter holiday season in Orlando, Florida.

In case you are wondering, the other theme parks in Orlando also go out of their way to make the winter holidays memorable for their visitors. For example, Disney World features Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (on a number of dates in November and December) as well as a special Christmas parade, a Holiday Wishes fireworks show, special performances, Christmas cookies, and--get this--some honest-to-goodness snow falling on Main Street USA. Cinderella's Castle will be decked out in "Castle Dream Lights" for the holidays.
