With the official announcement that the United States is in a recession recently it's hard to go anywhere without hearing about how bad the economy is. The kicker is that we have actually been in a recession since December of 2007. So you would think that everybody would be trying to find ways to save money and bracing themselves for some possibly tough times in the road ahead right? However, that is not always the case. I see many people, most of them young, who still spend money carelessly. Like the old saying goes, the older you get the wiser you become. When it comes to saving money though you can never be too wise or too young.

Growing up in a middle class family I was fortunate enough to have many things but there was always something more that I desired. In order to save up I would do extra household chores, offer to cut lawns, shovel snow and even try to find extra change in the recliner. As I got older I learned the value in the phrase "work smarter not harder". I tried to shop at some stores that my friends worked at or eat at restaurants where my friends were waiters and waitresses to save a little here and there. I would also take advantage of student discounts any chance I had. Many of my friends were too embarrassed to use discounts thinking it would taint their image and make them look cheap but I was never too cool to save a little money.

Unfortunately I almost always paid full price when shopping anywhere else though. I wish I would have had the opportunity to use online coupons and coupon codes that are available today when I was growing up.
