Fall Out Boy has taken a break from making music, and their upcoming album, Folie a Deux, has been pushed back to a Dec. 16 release date to allow Pete Wentz to become a father. http://MTV.com sat down with the band a few days after Wentz and wife Ashlee Simpson welcomed their first child, Bronx Mowgli, into the world. Although Wentz wasn’t available for comment on how his new role as a father will affect the band’s upcoming schedule, Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump did comment on the band’s current stalled status: “Obviously, elephant in the room, Pete just had a kid, so we’ve been taking a bit of a breather—more than we normally would. I think an FOB breather is still a lot busier than anybody else’s. Fall Out Boy first came onto the scene in 2001 when they began spinning their emo pop confections from their native Wilmette, Illinois (a tiny suburb of Chicago). Comprised of vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist/lyricist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andrew Hurley, Fall Out Boy released a split LP on Uprising in 2002 before issuing the mini LP Evening Out with Your Girl the same year. Island Records came calling and gave Fall Out Boy an advance so they could record a proper debut album, and the resulting Take This to Your Grave followed in 2003. The band’s breakthrough came two years later with the album, From Under the Cork Tree. Led by the hit singles “Dance, Dance” and “Sugar We’re Going Down,” the album earned the band a Grammy Award for Best New Artist and a spot among mainstream artists. Fall Out Boy released Infinity on High in 2007, by which time they were a TRL staple and had toured the nation while gathering fans along the way. The album spawned the popular single “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s An Arms Race” and went on to sell 1.3 million copies.

The lead single for Fall Out Boy’s forthcoming Folie a Deux is already doing well, and although the release date has been pushed back Stump told http://MTV.com that they are making it up to their fans: “So we’ve gone out and done some surprise shows in really small clubs. And it’s been pretty cool, because we haven’t been playing a lot of the new material, so we’re getting that out there before we start performing the new stuff. That’s kind of been are main thing right now, you know? Obviously, it’s more important than anything happening at home.” After the release of their new album, Fall Out Boy will perform a handful of dates in the U.S. and then head to Australia and Japan for a round of shows before headlining the Bamboozle Festival alongside No Doubt.
