Customized linear cove lights are the builder’s best friend when it comes to illuminating the high places of unique interior architecture. Far more sophisticated than the rope lights generally installed along valances and ceiling coves, linear lights offer much longer lamp life and offer a wide range of colour temperatures and lighting levels for the architect or builder to choose from. There are even different choices when it comes to lamping type, including the new 2800K LED festoon cove lights that can mimic the color rendering capacities of xenon bulbs.

Phantom patented the CM series linear strip to function as a template for custom cove lighting fixtures in high-end residential and commercial interior environments. The CM linear strip is an extremely low profile and flexible lighting fixture. It is designed to for custom fitting to even the most challenging ceiling environments and completely conceal its physical presence in the process. This is due to two very important design features. The first is size itself. Phantom cove lights are both horizontally and vertically thinner than many competing fixtures on the market. This is not the only factor that makes them so easy to conceal. CM linear LED strip lights are engineered to be custom cut to fit specific radius bends. This allows the architect who is designing a serpentine cove or a domed ceiling to simply order a cove light that fits the curvature of the interior architecture. Increasing number of architects are contacting Phantom and sending us blueprints and CAD drawings to get specs and quotes on linear strips that can be installed by the builder at the time of construction. Phantom linear strip lighting products are powered by smaller AC transformers that can be hidden from plain sight, making the finished product look like a sourceless aura of light that follows the contours and angles of the ceiling.

Another superb benefit that custom home builders can receive from Phantom cove lights is energy savings. These low-voltage fixtures are designed to be power savers on two separate levels. The first is dimmability. Every strip light can be linked to any number of dimmer controls or lighting control systems that allow the end-user to vary the level of lighting in the room. Secondly, the patented festoon lamping design that the CM series features allows for convenient and cost-effective upgrades to more energy efficient sources of lighting such as LED. We often see restaurants and hotels upgrading to LED replacement lamps to save on energy cost and buffer their overhead against economic downturns. An added benefit to this is some of the best theme lighting some restaurants like Houston’s Aquarium require is done with LED bulbs.

Custom home builders are likewise becoming more interested in LED cove lighting construction techniques. With the advent of the new 2800K festoon, it is now possible to create the same color temperatures with diode technology that were once only possible with incandescent-based sourcing. A new home today can be designed with the utmost sense of aesthetics in mind, and cove lighting can play an important role as money-saving, indirect lighting source the enhances the interior themes and colors of home design. Homeowners who already have cove lighting in their homes should consider upgrading the festoon lamps in their fixtures to add resale value in the form of energy savings on the list price of their home.
