Malaga has been one of the most popular package holiday destinations on the Costa del Sol for several decades. Indeed, it was among the first of the major Spanish holiday destinations to be offered by budding tour operators, which heralded the great Spanish holiday boom of the 80s. Today, Malaga has returned more to its roots; you are more likely to find Spanish owned business, and far less likely to encounter the kiss-me-quick UK style venues which typified the resorts early on. By taking up one of the many great deals on budget car hire Malaga based hire companies are offering, you will be able to explore some of the fascinating areas close by. When considering holiday destinations which could be improved by including car rental Malaga does not necessarily spring to mind, read on and we will find out why car hire in Malaga makes sense.
Benalmadena, Originally one of the brash and boisterous resorts, it has been redeveloped considerably over the last decade. Many local businesses have been bought back by the Spaniards, giving it a more Spanish vibe than previous decades. The breathtaking marina, which began development two decades ago has won the Most Beautiful Marina in the World award several times, and is frequented by famous personalities frequently.

Mijas, Perched atop a mountain, this quant Spanish village still exhibits plenty of old town charm. The drive up the mountain road from Benalmadena in itself is worth a trip, with several kilometres of switch back U-turns, with sheer drops on one side and a rock wall on the other.

Puerto Banus, If you enjoy rubbing shoulders with the rich and affluent, then you should take a trip to Puerto Banus. The stunning marina houses every type of yacht one could imagine, including huge ocean going vessels complete with heli-pad and gold fittings owned by some of the richest people in the world. A very up market area, with a real glamour vibe.

These are just three of the local areas within easy travelling distance by car from Malaga. You may prefer to just take off into the countryside, exploring as you go, a wonderful way to taste Spanish life away from the tourist areas, find a small village and try out the Menu del Dia in the local cantina. As a package destination Malaga is fully featured, although it is somewhat focused upon providing a very local set of facilities. If we consider cheap car rental Malaga becomes a great base of operations from which to explore the rest of the Costa del Sol, or even inland Spain itself. In the mid 80s, huge sums of money were invested in new freeways throughout all of Southern Spain, making it an extremely easy place to navigate, and a great choice for a less than traditional touring holiday. Why restrict yourself to a single hotel or resort? Spread your holiday along the coast by availing yourself of some cheap Malaga car hire.
