If the man who shot Jacksonville Jaguars offensive linemen Richard Collier was hoping that the 14 bullets he hit him with would fog his memory, they were wrong. In a recent interview, Collier says that he remembers everything from that night, from being in front of the apartment building to being brought to the hospital by ambulance. This is bad news for alleged shooter Tyrone Romaroo Hartsfield, who recently appeared for a pretrial hearing. During the hearing, Hartsfield’s lawyer filed a motion for the addresses of Collier and other witnesses. The result was that there will be another pretrial hearing in December. Hartsfield has been charged with attempted murder as well as the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. So far, Hartsfield has pleaded not guilty to the shooting on September 2, which left Collier paralyzed from the waist down and without one of his legs.

In the same interview with Collier, he commented about remaining positive about his current situation, which has obviously ended his football career. Collier was a standout in high school and attended Tyler Junior College after graduation. From there, he transferred to Valdosta State for two years, where he was an honorable mention All-American his final year. He joined the Jaguars in 2006 as an undrafted free agent. He played in four games his first year, making most of his appearances on special teams. He again played in four games in 2007 both on special teams and offense.

The shooting happened on September 2, 2008. Collier was in a car with former teammate Kenny Pettway, who is now on the roster for the Green Bay Packers. The two men were waiting outside of an apartment building when a man approached and fired into the vehicle. Pettway was not injured during the shooting. The motivation behind the shooting was apparently an altercation that Collier had had with Hartsfield at a nightclub the previous April. The Jaguars have attempted to recover from the loss of Collier, but like the Washington Redskins know, it could be worse. Their free safety, Sean Taylor, was shot and killed during a home invasion on November 26, 2007.

Without Collier, the Jaguars have had an up and down season. As of week 13, they are 4-8, having topped the Houston Texans, the Indianapolis Colts, the Denver Broncos and the Detroit Lions. Three of their four wins came before their bye week during week seven. The last few games, the Jaguars have struggled, dropping games to the Tennessee Titans, the Minnesota Vikings and the Texans. The Jaguars will be ending their season with games against the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers, the Colts and the Baltimore Ravens. The Colts have only been getting better this season, so the Jaguars cannot expect a similar game to their win earlier in the season. When they play the Packers, they will not have to go up against former Jaguar Pettway as he was recently placed on injured reserve.
