Homeowners are often frazzled by a big choice that they would have to make: gas or wood? Fireplaces do add comfort and immediate warmth to any home and is indeed a calming presence to any weary homeowner after a day’s work. Individuals can simply lie back and enjoy the warmth, or read a good book while the aroma of the fireplace takes one away.

But how does one select anyway? What differentiates the gas-burning fireplace and wood-burning fireplace? Which one should you choose?

The wood-burners

Wood-burning fireplaces can be great additions to nearly every part of the house. If you live in a really cold region of the country, you would know that comfortable warmth is welcome when you’re having dinner, cuddling in the master bedroom or reading the day’s newspapers. Wood burners provide a wonderful crackling and cracking sound, and the smell of good wood burning away in a controlled environment can be aromatically soothing.

With no gas or electricity to think of, wood-burning fireplaces are the single choice of people who have access to natural wood. Also, wood-burning fireplaces are often more elegant, luxurious, and yes, more expensive.

Since the stones used for the fireplaces are special, even the complete installation of these traditional fireplaces can be very expensive. If you wish to mark your house with a definite touch of tradition and elegance, then the wood-burning variety is the one for you. If you don’t have enough cash, on the other hand, then perhaps another selection would be well suited for your purpose.

Gas-burning fireplaces

Now, gas-burning fireplaces are mainly for people who like to go for convenience more than anything else. Basically, gas-burning fireplaces - as long as you keep the reservoirs amply filled - never run out of fire, and you can enjoy hours of undisturbed time in a room with a gas-burning fireplace without ever "feeding" small pieces of wood for the fire.

Gas-burning fireplaces are also more elegant and less hefty than the wood-burning ones. Safety features also abound, and usability is top-notch. Essentially, gas-burning fireplaces attempt to combine the Old World comfort with modern day inventions.

Also, gas-burning fireplaces can be adjusted based on your specific preferences. For example, you can easily adjust the height of fire, as well as the general intensity of the blaze in front of you. Similar to the adjustment of kitchen ranges, fireplaces also work by the principle of knobs. Turn a knob one direction, the fire dies. Turn the knob in another direction, and fire appears once again.

Warm Circulation

Other features make sure that every whiff of heat is drawn outward to the chilly environment. For example, the heat that forms at the back region of fireplaces can now be utilized by the use fans. The fans can distribute the warmth evenly across an area, so the cash you spend on fuel is substantiated well by the heat produced by the machine.

Also, gas-powered fire places are rated, and thus, you can easily pick the most efficient fireplace in the size category that you prefer, with the price that you can easily afford.
