Change for the better. Make that decision that you always wanted. Take the first step to making those changes and stop procrastinating. The excuses you use are only as good as the person making them - this means the buck stops with you. Once you have achieved the mental focus you need and start to put in the effort to make a change, then you will see the pieces fall together.

Find out what is important in your life and what you need to do to make things better. Don’t be foolish and think you can wing it. Write down some objectives that you would like to achieve and most importantly, you need to draw up a time line. Set dates so you know how far or how slowly you are coming along. This is one of the best ways to motivate yourself towards success.

Set realistic targets. Don’t be flamboyant when it comes to change. I have seen some people set down some unrealistic targets and get woefully disappointed when they realise they have no way of achieving it. It is important to set targets that you can see and is within both your physical and emotional capacities to achieve. This is no longer a dream, but a reality.

Find a role model. While this may be hard for some, it is quite good if you can measure yourself up to someone that you really admire. I am not saying that you should copy everything about that person, but you must understand the ideals and mannerisms that made them the success that they are now. The mistake people often make is choosing celebrities to model themselves after, and that is setting themselves up for disappointment. Instead, choose someone who’s more relatable. It could be your parents or someone in the office or in the same industry as you are.

Visualise. See yourself successful. I think that is one of the most important things when it comes to building up confidence. This is the only time when visualisation in your mind can help you achieve a goal faster. See yourself in all the glory you want to be and that is just the emotional urge you need to push yourself towards your targets.

Listen to advice. Along the road to success, you might meet people who can give you invaluable advice that will help you to achieve your goal that much faster. But learn how to filter the good from the bad. Some people are just there to use and abuse you, leading you astray and making you all the poorer for it. Once you can identify these people, avoid them like the plague.
