The phrase, 'information overload' describes a generic situation that could apply to almost any situation in which the individual is overwhelmed by the need to understand and process unfamiliar data. In this article I mean to address the topic as it relates to the Affiliate Marketer 'newbie'.

The Affiliate Market newbie will find him/her self descending into ever greater depths of information as the process of learning the art of Affiliate Marketing is entered into. Some aspects will be readily understood, but like the proverbial onion, as the student unravels one piece of information, so there appears to be more information to disseminate just beneath the surface layer. It could also be called 'the Russian doll syndrome'.

Basically what is occurring is that an excess amount of information is being gathered or provided, often from many separate sources, thus making the process of absorbing tasks very difficult for the individual because, in the early stages the validity behind much of the information available is obscure, and the tasks, unfamiliar.

When such information is gathered via the newbies enthusiastic genesis, there is likely to be as much, or more misinformation gathered, than accurate information which focuses upon the objective in hand. Indeed - has the newbie even formed an objective yet? If not, then the gathering of information can be likened to dunking ones cookie in coffee to the point that it disintegrates.

The road ahead can seem so impossibly long and complicated that often it is about now that the newbie will become disheartened and profoundly doubtful as to his/her ability to make any real progress. Another "95 percenter" bites the dust.

Newbie's who conduct their own research are given that ability because of the ever increasing number of websites and individuals that have come to play the game of 'spot the newbie'. Thus the students set themselves up to become a prime target for every flim-flam, fluff and banter, scam merchant on the web horizon. Is it not surprising then, that left to their own devices, many newbie's find themselves led down one promising road after another, all of which turn into the same cul-de-sac of confusion and provide no real progress at all?

More and more people are becoming active writers for the 'newbie' marketplace and it is all too easy for the aspirant to latch on to one source of information and trust the provider for long enough to part with their hard earned cash and then, after a few weeks or months, they realize that they haven't managed to achieve anything profitable with that information or software application, and it sits there gathering digital dust on the hard-drive. So, next they look for another source of information/misinformation.

This flow (or should I say, gush) of readily available but spurious marketing information which is now polluting the Internet, has created an enlarged victim base when it comes to information overload and misdirection.

The newbie has a singular primary question - "How do I succeed in Affiliate Marketing?" In pursuit of the answer, the almost instantaneous and limitless supply of dross to be had, is absorbed without knowing the validity of the content and as a result there is the consequent risk of gathering truck loads of misinformation. Wasted time - wasted money and a head buzzing with confusion and frustration.

The general causes of information overload include:

1. A rapidly increasing rate of new/rehashed information being produced.

2. The ease of duplication and transmission of data across the Internet.

3. Contradictions and inaccuracies in available information.

4. Getting information which is opinion, more than it is real knowledge.

5. A lack of a method for comparing and processing different kinds of information

6. Student gullibility

7. No defining goal other than to become a millionaire

The answer that the newbie seeks is not to be found within a diverse range of limitless, overwhelming quantities of conflicting material, much of which is sold or made available for the singular purpose of profit, without any genuine concern for the success of the newbie's endeavours. No - the answers must be had from someone who can prove their own success and has a genuine desire to help the newbie get ahead.
