Here are some tips on fishing in Singapore you need to know about before you embark on your long and languishing journey on fishing.

Fishing is one of the favourite past times of men and has been around for thousands of years. Today, there are still fish mongers who wake up at the crack of dawn to find fish for the markets, but this article will be discussing on the causal aspects of fishing.

You know what I am talking about, you and your friends in a boat with nothing but bait and some refreshments, nothing between you and the world; the calm seas speaking to you in murmurs and there you are with your pals with not a care in the world. Fishing is not a sport, it is a leisure activity that can be very relaxing and there are some excellent fishing spots in Singapore.

First, you need to find the right sort of bait for the fish you need to catch. They can range from roe, dead fish, baby squids to worms – all sorts of bait for all sorts of fish. Speak to the guy, who is selling them, he probably knows what bait you need for the fish that you are planning to catch. It would help if you could tell him where you are planning to fish, and what the spot is known for. You also need to invest in some good equipment. A fishing trip is usually about having fun, but if you do not want to go home empty handed , then there are a few things you need to bring along.

Always buy extra bait, because you never know how much you will waste or use and bring more than one type. This helps if you realise that a certain type of bait is not working and you can give another a shot. Also, invest some money in a good rod with good equipment. Do not make the mistake of buying a cheap fishing rod – they tend to snap very easily and you will end up with either a cut and a bloody hand or your rod floating in the sea.

There are plenty of great places you can fish in Singapore and of the top of my head include Fisherman’s Wharf in Changi, Bedok Jetty, Pasir Ris Beach, certain parts of Sentosa and certain fishing points in the West Coast. You can either rent a small and simple boat like a junk or a sampan and do things the simple way, or you can drop the bomb and rent a yacht, complete with a captain to go out to the middle of the ocean and fish.

The first option is pretty cheap while the second one can run up to hundreds and even a thousand dollars a day, depending on how big the boat is and how many people it can hold. The choice is really down to how many people are going and whether or not you can afford it.
