The Stresses and Joys of Today’s Moms By Cathy Lopez At Isnare.com Ezine Articles

No one can doubt the difficult tasks that mothers have always faced since the beginning of time. From the mother that stayed home and took care of the household and the family to the mothers today that juggle a job and household duties. But who, I wonder, is to say which lifestyle is more enjoyable to the mother or more beneficial to the child.

It is quite obvious that a child needs a mother to care for him or her, but doesn’t a child also need to learn some important lessons regarding life in general as well? Doesn’t a child need to learn about motivation and the pursuit of goals as much as a child needs to have a mother at home to care for him or her? It may seem as though this answer depends on the point of view but it can hardly be denied otherwise. Today’s child is growing up in a much different and much more advanced society so although today’s mom’s are able to take great pride and joy in their careers, they are also faced with the stressful tasks of traditional motherhood.

Today’s mothers not only cook, and clean, and do the laundry, and take their children to extracurricular and school related activities but they also work, and run their own errands, and teach their children to respect others, and set goals, and all the while still must find time to show love and affection. This does not mean that today’s moms love their children any less but that today’s moms feel that there are other things that are equally important to teach their children as well as love and affection.

With the economy the way it is today it is becoming more and more difficult for moms to stay at home and raise a family the traditional way but even more than that it is becoming more difficult because moms are beginning to feel that children gain something else entirely from seeing them pursue a career. Children learn that a family works together to improve the quality of their lives. They learn that women have just as meaningful careers as men and that it’s acceptable for women to vigorously pursue their careers. They learn that it is possible to care for a family and work as long as you have the motivation to do so. And finally, they learn that there is no dad duties and mom duties but that when two people work together all responsibilities are shared.

Although some may look at this way of life as not being good for a child due to a possible lack of attention doesn’t this way of life also teach a child a bit of independence as well? Is it not good for a child to learn some sort of independence before going out into the world on their own?

Everybody may have their own point of view but I do believe that more and more of today’s moms will begin to enjoy both raising their children and pursuing a career.
