Internet Marketing - The Money is in the List….Not!

When you are trying to make money online, you may have heard that the money is in the list. This is based on the concept that sales will come if you approach enough people with your idea. This does not work when you are working with online marketing. The money is not in the list but your relationship with the list.

We often hear that practice makes perfect. That old adage has been around for a long time, but it is not true. Perfect practice makes perfect. Someone who sits every day at a piano and half heartedly practices will not become a perfect pianist anymore than the person who does not practice at all. On the other hand, someone who practices perfection at the piano on a daily basis will rise to the top of this art form. The same concept holds true when it comes to an internet business. Many people who are involved with internet marketing are under the impression that they have to continue to build a list in order to succeed. While building an email list of potential customers is a good idea, you should not rely on the length of the list to sell your product.

In order to be successful at internet marketing with direct response advertising through your email list, you have to build up a relationship with your potential customers and earn their trust. The more that you concentrate on your list and creating a relationship with those on your email list, the more successful your endeavors will be.

Two marketers may, for example, get 25 orders for their product from one mailing. One may have only 500 people on his email list while the other has 3000. Under the assumption that more is better, the person with the 3000 people on his email list should have more orders, right? Not true. The person with the 500 people on his list has spent less time building a list and concentrating solely on the list than the person who has 3000 people on the list. Examples of this sort can be found all over the internet with those who are practicing online marketing. The money is not in the email list that you build, but how you interact with customers and continue not to only build a list of new customers, but to develop the relationship you have with existing customers.

Good internet marketing skills require you to work on developing the relationship with your customers through your email list and selling a product of value. The more your potential customers get to know you, the more they will trust you and the more apt they will be to buy from you. The money is not in the list but in how you view the list and continue to work on your relationship with your customers. This is not difficult to do an you can get internet marketing coaching that can enable you to practice this approach with ease. If you want to make money online, you have to hone in your relationship skills with your potential customers as much as possible.
