Nashville’s sweetheart Taylor Swift may have been robbed of a Grammy nomination this year, but the dashing young starlet has plenty more to celebrate in the meantime. The teenager and country music sensation is forgetting her Grammy woes this week, focusing her efforts instead on the new year coming into view. Swift was recently announced as one more performer added to the lineup of this year’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” and she will ring in 2009 alongside her former beau’s band, the Jonas Brothers, along with several more of the year’s hottest acts.

This year’s 37th annual “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” event in Manhattan’s Times Square will once again be co-hosted by Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest, and American Idol alum Kellie Pickler will act as a field correspondent, as well, with Fergie also stepping in as a host for the Hollywood portion of the show. While Swift, the Jonas Brothers and Lionel Richie will perform in New York City, the program’s Hollywood portion will include performances by Natasha Bedingfield, Fall Out Boy, Ne-Yo and the Pussycat Dolls. Dick Clark will once again ring in the new year in style through the television set in millions of American’s homes, aiding in the ball-dropping countdown to midnight.

While many of the artists performing on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” have just one song on the radio stations right now that they will undoubtedly be performing on the New Year’s segment, Swift has her work cut out for her in picking tracks to perform at the event. The singing/songwriting sensation has been blowing up the country music charts with many hit singles over the past year, propelling the teenager into a fantasy land full of success over her cutesy ballads and love songs. Taylor Swift, a Wyomissing, Pennsylvania native, had plans of becoming a superstar from her childhood, when she was encouraged to pursue a career in music from her opera-singing grandmother, but her debut on the music scene wasn’t until she was 11 years old, when the child prodigy sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the opening of a Philadelphia 76ers game. Deeply inspired by music and star struck by her very first public performance, the blonde bombshell hasn’t looked back since.

Swift’s family moved to Nashville in her younger years and she scored a record deal with Big Machine Records thanks to her partnership with Scott Borchetta. Swift’s Nashville debut was the smash single “Tim McGraw,” a love song that sent her swirling into the depths of country music fame. Taylor Swift, the guitarist/vocalist’s debut album, landed at number one on the country charts in 2006, catapulted into the spotlight by hit songs “Our Song,” “Teardrops On My Guitar” and “Tim McGraw.” Riding the wave of success into 2008, Swift recently released her second album Fearless, refusing to fall into a sophomore slump. Fearless debuted as number one across the charts, already spawning charting singles like “Love Story” and “White Horse.”
