An optical disk recorder or a DVD recorder can record video into a blank DVD media. These devices are available as standalone components or as an installable drive for computers. It is also used in studios and home theatre systems.

DVDs have become a part of the people’s leisure time. It is essential to buy the best DVD player so that you can thoroughly enjoy your favorite movies.

First on the list is the Pioneer DVR-640H-S. This DVR enables you to digitally copy and record video programs on a DVD-R disc or on its hard disc. It is like a VCR that can record signals, including their audio information, through another A/V source, cable feed or an antenna. The internal disc drive allows the users to instantly access a part of the recording. This makes it easier to select programs and skip commercials.

Next is the Pioneer DVR-320. It comes with a variety of features but it does not come with a hard drive that makes it a basic recorder. It is noted as one of the basic machines and one of the best out there. It is very easy to use and is great for beginners, especially when it comes to DVD recording. Although the DVR-320 does not come with a hard drive, it has a chase lay mode. This mode lets you record even in the middle of a show.

Another one from Pioneer is the DVR7000. This DVD recorder is sleek yet feature packed. It has two A/V inputs and outputs that come with the S-video connection. It has a jog dial that allows three speed picture scanning, frame advance and reverse, along with the still, four sped slow motion, resume and repeat functions.

It also has a disc navigation button that lets you create a play list of earlier recorded videos. It features a user selectable recording of bit rate that allows you to put up to six hours of video recording on a standard DVD rewriteable disc. There are also thirty two recoding settings to choose from which allows fine tuning of the recording time as well as picture quality.

One top of the line DVD recorder also from Pioneer is the DVR-533H. It has both substance and style. It comes with an 80 gigabyte hard disk. It is skinny like a DVD player. It doesn’t have a cooling fan but it does not overheat even after several hours.

The noted features of this model are high speed video dubbing, EPG or Electronic Programming Guide. Then, a thirty second skip mode or commercial killing, fire wire input and excellent editing options. Its downside is that the remote is somehow cluttered and can even frustrate some users. Pioneer also added some menu navigation buttons located at the front of the unit to be able to access the functions without using the remote.

Last but not the least is the Pioneer DVR 520H. It is by far the lowest priced DVD recorder from Pioneer. It has 80 gigabytes of hard disk space. This recorder can copy TV programs and even VHS directly to its hard drive. This recorder’s hard drive is a little smaller in capacity but still accommodates 18 hours of fine recording.

Like most of its competitors, this recorder has a front panel fire wire jack that allows easy transferring of home videos or movies straight from camcorders. As of its downsides, DVR 520H lacks an Electronic Programming Guide or EPG and IR blaster that is present among its rivals.
