All too often people will look for an excuse as to why they are where they are in life when the simple fact is that you are responsible for yourself. Even though that is true it is also true that sometimes outside forces, influences and sometimes people can be a contributor to our current position. The position of being overweight is no exception. Sometimes outside influences can either cause us to gain weight or not be able to lose weight when we try. Sometimes you have to take a hard look at the most important of relationships in your life. The relationship of your spouse is the one I am referring to. Is your spouse making you fat? If that is the case it is best to recognize it so that you can address it and get it changed and on the way to being a healthy supportive force that helps you to lose weight.

One thing to consider is how much overall support you get from your spouse when you announce that you would like to lose weight. A lot of times we can get comfortable in our relationship and we will say things that we normally would not say to a stranger. If you have announced that you are going to diet in the past only to fall off the wagon it is possible that your spouse might not take you seriously on future or current attempts. While it is essential that you have the support of your partner you have to remember that if you have fallen off of the diet path in the past then you are partly to blame for the lack of support now. Just try and keep an open mind if you do not get support in the very beginning. It is up to you to prove that you are finally serious and at that point a good partner will take note and join in with some support.

Another thing to watch out for is a true level of support. If you are seriously trying to lose weight and you have put forth some sort of positive track record then it is only fair to expect a full level of support in the form of no junk food in the house. Sure your spouse might not be on the same diet as you but it would be very supportive if they followed along on the diet plan in the pantry. One way to get some help on this is to compromise and set a deadline for you to reach your goal weight. After that then your spouse might be able to have a few of the non healthy items they like in the house. In this way both you and your spouse's needs are met and you can get the support you need.

As you can tell getting help from your spouse instead of an undermining attitude and habits is essential to the overall success of your diet. But just as you are personally responsible for your current weight you are also partly responsible for the support you receive. You must maintain open communication and make an attempt to win the support before you can even begin to try and blame your spouse for any negative effects on your weight. And at the end of the day the responsibility will fall on your shoulders alone.
