It’s January. The wind is cold, the rain is cold, the house is cold, and most importantly, we’re cold. What we need is something to pick us up, something that we can look forward to and will carry us through the gloomy winter months. For most people, this pick me up is the great feeling of having booked our holiday in the new year. There’s nothing like the knowledge that you’ve secured your time off on a sunny island in the med to brighten things up. It’s even better if you choose somewhere with variety – where you can be as active or relaxed as you want. For those who want choice in their holiday in the sun, we suggest Menorca, and specifically the resort of Cala Galdana. We explore holidays in Cala Galdana, and see why breaks in the area open up holiday possibilities that you’ll love.

Where is it?

Cala Galdana is in Menorca, an island in the Balearics just to the south of France and east of Spain. Known for its spectacular horseshoe bay of fine white sand gently shelving into crystal clear water, this area mixes sandy beaches with the heat and sun that you would expect of the Mediterranean.

What activities are on offer?

The resort caters to all tastes: for the more active holiday maker there is mini golf, snorkelling, kayaking, boat trips and a whole series of other water sports are available. There is also a lively evening atmosphere in the bay, with bars and restaurants staying open late and many of the local hotels offering organised entertainment.

However, the resort has much more than just full on activities and excursions. Holidays in Cala Galdana also provide for those who just want to kick back, relax and enjoy the climate and weather. There are cove that are secluded enough that you can sunbathe in almost complete isolation along the coast, though many of the villas in Cala Galdana have terraces and sea views themselves, saving the truly relaxed the bother of even leaving their rooms.

You can also choose a mix of both relaxation and excitement, indulging in some of the regions activities such as horse riding, or walking in the beautiful pine woods to Cala Mitjana, Cala Macarella and Macarelleta, with their emerald green waters, lush vegetation and fresh water springs.

What about a family holiday?

Cala Galdana holidays are also great for the family. The area has playgrounds, a waterslide and a fun train which travels around the resort, making the area ideal for family vacations. Many of the activities available can be shared with the whole family – snorkelling, horse riding and walking are all great with partners and children, and many of the villas in Cala Galdana are spacious enough to accommodate even the largest family groups.

The resort offers a huge variety in terms of accommodation, activities and culture, and its relatively unknown status makes it unique as an unspoilt gem in a part of the Mediterranean already known for its beauty. Great for families, relaxation seekers and active holiday makers alike, it is the unknown nature of the area that, when mixed with the choice of holiday styles, really makes it perfect for everyone. Booking a Cala Galdana holiday is just what you need to give you that warm, cosy feeling inside in January and all winter long.
