Many women choose to undergo enhancement surgery to enlarge their breasts. Before undergoing breast enhancement surgery, make sure you understand all risks and side effects.

Many women undergo this procedure when they feel their breasts are too small for their body which makes it look disproportionate. Many women also undergo it in the hope of restoring the shape and size of their assets if they have had significant weight loss or pregnancy.

During the surgery, the doctor will place an implant either under the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. The doctor will place an incision at the bottom of the breast, around the nipple or armpit. Many people also have a breast lift with an enlargement procedure, to raise a sagging bust. Usually the doctor will lift the breast by removing excess skin at the bottom, and may also remove the areola. The skin is then tightened to raise the bust. After the implant has been placed in the body properly, the incision is closed.

Usually the doctor completes such augmentation surgeries in an outpatient facility such as a hospital or surgery center. The patient will usually not have to wait overnight and the surgery will usually last from one to two hours. The doctor may choose to use general or local anesthesia or an epidural.

After the surgery, the doctor places gauze around the incisions or the breasts are covered with a bandage. The doctor then makes the patient wear a special bra. Usually stitches can be removed within two weeks. The patient may endure some bruising and soreness for a few days. Usually the doctor will provide you with medicine which will help relieve much of the pain.

Most women can go back to work and do their daily activities within a few days after the procedure. The patient should refrain from heavy lifting for a few days until your doctor tells you otherwise. You may have a few scars after the surgery but the scars are usually in inconspicuous places, such as a crease or armpit and fade after a few months.

Implants may need to be surgically removed in the future if they leak, rupture or change in shape. You will need to have another surgery to fix the problem, should this occur.
