Just as you need to learn the rules of Texas HoldEm to play poker in Germany, you also need to learn the poker Omaha rules. The two poker games are quite similar in the rules, but in Omaha you receive four cards dealt face down from the dealer instead of two. The rest of the game remains the same in the community cards and the round of betting after each one. At the showdown, you use two of the cards in your hand with three of the community cards to make the best hand. You do have to show all four of the cards you holdem in your hand not just the two you are using for the winning combination in order to qualify as a winner of the pot.

There are also differences in the types of Omaha poker games. In the Omaha high/low game, players use two cards from their hand to make a high hand with the community cards and the other two cards to make a low hand. You cannot use the same card from the four you holdem in your hand for both combinations, but you can use any of the community cards in both cases.

In Texas HoldEm, if there are three or more suited cards among the community cards, you could make a flush hand. This is not so in Omaha poker. In this game, in order to make a flush with the community cards you need to have two cards of that suit in your hand. Another difference in the rules of both games is that you cannot use four of the community cards to make a Full House. You can only use three of these, so you must have the rest of the combination in two of the cards in your hand.

In Omaha hi/lo split, you have to make a separate high hand and a separate low hand. The pot is split between the players with these winning hands, although it is possible for one player to win both and thus all the pot. To qualify for a low hand a player must have an 8-card or lower and a winning hand, such as 8, 7, 6, 5, 4. This is the worst low hand, while the best is one that has 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace. You have o read the cards as numbers and the lowest combination wins. If there is no hand that qualifies as a low hand, then the player with the winning high hand wins the full pot. In order for any player to win a low hand, there must be three cards on the table with a rank of 8 or lower.

Omaha poker is more difficult to play than Texas HoldEm, but once you start playing you will soon get into the swing of the game. You do need to play the game to see the rules in action so that you have hands on experience. There is a world of difference between knowing what the rules of the game are and being able to apply them.
